First Day of School Monday, July 26, 2021
Thank you to all that were able to visit with us last Thursday during the 1st-5th grades Meet the Teacher event and on Friday during the Pre-K Open House. It was truly a pleasure to be able to meet so many of our new and returning families. If you were not able to attend the event and have not been able to connect with your child’s teacher yet, please don’t worry, we will make sure your child finds their new class and teacher as soon as they arrive to school.
Tomorrow will be the first day of school for our 1st – 5th grade students. Staggered entry will begin for Kindergarten. I am looking forward to meeting our Kindergarten families very soon. Kindergarten Open House is scheduled for Friday, July 30th from 5pm-7pm. Kindergarten and Pre-K will start school on August 2nd. Virtual Academy students will follow the traditional school calendar, their first day will be August 23rd.
Maintaining a safe and healthy school environment is very important to us and we need your help to sustain this effort daily. Please make sure your child comes to school each day with a mask. A mask will be provided if forgotten. Masks must be always worn by staff and students while in the building. Water fountains will remain closed. Please send a water bottle for your child to have water breaks throughout the day. At this time visitors are not permitted in the building during school hours. Late drop off, early pickup, as well as any other business that may require consultation with a teacher or office staff will need to take place outside of the school or virtually. To minimize the spread of COVID-19 our school follows all COVID-19 health measures required by the NC Department of Health and Human Services.
If you applied for bus transportation you should have received an email from the department of transportation confirming your bus and bus stop assignment. Your child will receive a bus tag at school. It will be attached to their bookbags where it should remain for the duration of the school year. If you need assistance with bus transportation please contact Lori Zimmerman, Assistant Principal. Carpool tags were made available during Meet the Teacher and will be provided to parents this week as well.
We are very excited to welcome our students back to school. It is going to be an EXTRAORDINARY year!
Your support is greatly appreciated,
Wenitra Merritt, Principal
