WELCOME LETTER FROM PRINCIPAL WENITRA MERRITT

Greetings Carver Elementary School Community,

I am very excited to introduce myself as the new principal of Carver Elementary School. It is indeed an honor to have the opportunity to work with such an amazing, caring, and committed school community. I look forward to partnering with you as we continue our work at Carver Elementary to do what is best for ALL children so that they thrive in the present and in the future.

I am a proud educator with 26 years of experience. After teaching in upstate NY and completing a master’s degree program in Interdisciplinary Arts for Children, I moved to Wake County in 1997. After 12 years of teaching at the elementary school level I earned a Masters of School Administration degree from UNC-Chapel Hill. The last 14 years of my educational career, I’ve supported several outstanding Wake County principals as their assistant principal. All my school leadership experiences have been in Title I schools, where we successfully changed the narrative for so many students because of our unwavering commitment to the growth and achievement of ALL students.  I am thrilled to bring my skills and passion as an educational leader to Carver Elementary School.

I value having positive relationships with students, families, staff, and the community at-large. I believe that ALL students can learn and possess inherent strengths and talents. I believe a school should be student-centered where learning activities are relevant, engaging, and empowering. I believe in the power of collaboration and I look forward to partnering with each of you as we work together to make sure that our students ROAR this school year!

I am thrilled about becoming a Carver Cub and can’t wait to connect with each of you. Until we can meet more formally, please continue to view our Carver Elementary School website as well as School Messenger emails and texts for pertinent school information.

With warmest regards,

Wenitra Merritt
