Principal's Message - September 27, 2024

 

Hi Families,

 

We hope this message finds you and your family safe and well.  

 

Here is an overview of events for September 30 – October 4:

  • Track 1 students return to classes on Monday
  • Custodian Appreciation Day on Wednesday
  • Mustang Market on Friday, 8:45 – 9:10 AM
  • School Spirit Day on Friday.  Wear MES colors or spiritwear!
  • Town of Morrisville Fire Safety Day on Saturday

We are excited to welcome back Track 1!  We look forward to supporting all Track 1, 2, and 3 students as they begin instruction for Quarter 2.

SPOTLIGHT

 

Wednesday, October 2 celebrates Custodian Appreciation Day.  Please join us as we share thanks and kindness to our wonderful Head Custodian, Ms. Oliver, and to our night custodian Mr. Murcia.

 

October is Bullying Prevention Month.  On Monday, October 7th we will kick off events with World Bullying Prevention Day. The goal is for every student to be a HERO (Help Everyone Respect Others).  Linked here is a letter from Ms. Van Keuren and Ms. Martin, our school counselors, with information about activities for students. Listed below are special dress up days that will occur at school.

HISPANIC HERITAGE MONTH:  Join us in honoring Hispanic culture through student performances showcasing the rich traditions and stories of the Hispanic community. This event will be held at Millbrook High School, Saturday, October 26, 1 PM – 4 PM.

 

FIELD TRIPS: Students are excited for their upcoming field trips. WCPSS is now using School Cash Online for field trip payments.  Register in the new system to pay online.  Online payments are preferred as the safest, easiest, and most convenient method of payment for upcoming field trips.  Follow the steps to register at School Cash Online Parent Instructions

 

SPELLING BEE: Attention Grades 1-5! Our annual MES School-wide Spelling Bee is scheduled for Monday, December 9th.  Be on the watch for more information in the weeks to come.

 


COMMUNITY INTEREST

 

FIRE SAFETY DAY: The Town of Morrisville Fire Department will host its annual Fire Safety Day for the community on Saturday, October 5, 10 AM – 2 PM at Park West Village.  Families and students are invited to join this event.

GIRL SCOUTS:  The North Carolina Coastal Pines Council will hold an interest meeting for families who would like to consider joining the Girl Scouts.  The meeting will be Wednesday, October 9, 6 PM – 7 PM in the school cafeteria.

REMINDERS

 

VOLUNTEERS: Register to volunteer before the Oct 1 deadline.  Visit Volunteering in WCPSS to learn more about volunteer renewal or apply to be a first-time volunteer.

 

ANGEL ACCOUNT:  Help a student in need!  Individuals or organizations that want to donate to the Districtwide Angel Fund to help students who don't have enough money to purchase their school meals can complete this form to send with their donation, and those that want to engage others in their community in this effort can use this flyer for outreach.  Learn more at wcpss.net/angelfund.

 

STATE FAIR:  The State Fair is October 17 – 27.  Purchase advance tickets online at ncstatefair.org and support the school. Simply enter 504 under “Membership” at check-out on the “Tools for Schools” link.  For every Adult and Child FastTrack Gate Admission Ticket purchased online using the Morrisville Elementary school code (504) before October 17, the State Fair will donate to our school.

TARDIES:  Families, if you are arriving late to school after 9:15 AM please park and come to the front door with your child so you can sign them in to school tardy.  We need an adult present to sign the student in.

 

ABSENCES:  If your child is absent from school, be sure to send a written note to your child’s teacher when they return.  Thank you for helping us keep everyone safe and healthy!

PTA NEWS

 

Mustang Market:  The next MUSTANG MARKET will be Friday, October 4.  The Mustang Market is a time for students to shop and purchase (CASH ONLY) items such as pencils, erasers, pencil sharpeners, and pencil boxes.  Students can stop by the cafeteria from 8:45 - 9:10 AM to shop. 

 

The Mustang Market is a great opportunity to practice money counting skills.  Items cost between $0.25 to $2.00. The store is hosted by the PTA and the student leaders help shoppers pick out items, count their money and pay for their items. Some MES merchandise available such as MES Stickers, water bottles, hairbows and totes.  These items range from $3 to $20.

Donuts with Grownups:  The PTA is excited to host the special Donuts with Grownups events for families.  Due to inclement weather, this event has been rescheduled for Tracks 3 & 4. Dates listed below.

  • Tracks 1 & 2, Thursday October 17
  • Tracks 3 & 4, Friday November 22
