It is hard to believe that we are entering our last week of the 2020-21 school year! This has definitely been a year like no other and we are thankful for the support of our entire Matin community. Our last day of school is on Thursday, June 10th.
Martin returns to a regular schedule this week as we have finished End of Year testing. Students who missed any testing last week will make up missed tests this week. The schedule for make-up testing this week is:
- Monday ELA (all grades)
- Tuesday Math (6-8)
- Wednesday Math 1, Math 2 and Math 3
- Thursday 8th grade Science
Final grades will be available for view by the end of the day Friday.
Materials Return: All school issued materials are to be returned this week. This includes EL novels, library books, instruments, costumes and hot spots. Students returning to any WCPSS school next year will keep their Chromebook. Students leaving WCPSS for any reason are to return Chromebook this week. Materials can be dropped off in carpool, at the front office or to individual teachers. Please be certain to attach a sticky note with your student’s name to each item being returned.
Media Center Devices: We will not be able to check devices out from the media center for the remainder of the year as these devices have been moved to testing locations in the building. Students should bring their district issued, fully charged Chromebook to school each day.
7th Grade Families: NC State Law mandates that all rising 7th graders have their TDAP and Meningococcal vaccines. Please return immunization records showing TDAP and Meningococcal vaccines before school begins in August. End of Year Activities: Each grade level will have an end of year activity for all students. Sixth grade celebration will be on June 9 from 7:30-11:00. Seventh grade is June 9 from 12:00-2:15. Eighth grade celebration will be on June 10 from 12:00-2:15. Each celebration is for all students in the grade.
From Student Council: Student Council will be hosting a virtual "The Event of The Year!" The event will be held June 7th, 8th, and 9th from 3:00PM - 4:30PM. June 7th is the day 6th grade will attend, 7th graders will be attending on June 8th, and 8th graders will be attending on June 9th. This will be a fun event with different virtual games to choose from.
Where shall I join the event when the time comes? The link will be on the Student Council website a couple hours before the event. We hope to see you there!!
Yearbooks: Yearbooks will be distributed during the end of year celebrations for each grade level. Students not attending their grade level celebration will be able to pick their yearbooks up from the front office starting on Friday.
Summer Camp Opportunity: If you’re interested in a performing arts camp that will challenge your child and give him or her the valuable experience of a professional theater, then look no further than LIVE Kids Theater! Martin Middle School's very own Dance Instructor Lacy Lowder, Theater Arts instructor Roberto Velarde and former Choral Instructor Danny Yancey are heading into their 5th successful year of providing a summer camp experience like no other. Your child will learn the basics of theater and dance on the very first day, and continue with rigorous rehearsals towards an end-of-the-week performance in front of a live audience, that he or she will be proud of for years to come! Games and events are way more fun with snacks, don't you agree? To keep the popcorn and drinks flowing, we'll need a lead person plus a fun committee to share the load. Grab your friends and sign up together!
-Fall Fundraiser Chair and Committee
This is a no-fuss fundraiser involving a check writing campaign and penny wars (which the students LOVE.) It is very important that we fill this role as it generates the majority of funds our PTA will use for programs all year long. The chairperson will have plenty of support from the board and committee to make the magic happen!
-Mustang Madness Chair and Committee
This spring fundraiser is a high-energy, super fun tradition known and loved by many. It's a time for students to let loose and have fun and also showcase performances that they've worked hard on all year. We need a lead person and a committee to keep it going and return it to its pre-virtual glory!
-Social Media Chair
