Mustang News for May 30, 2021

Martin and all WCPSS schools are closed on Monday in observance of the Memorial Day holiday.

End of year testing continues this week with the following schedule:

  • Tuesday 8th grade science
  • Wednesday 7th grade math
  • Thursday 8th grade math and all high school credit math classes
  • Friday 6th grade math

Our complete testing schedule can be found here. The schedule of classes after testing can be found on the calendar of our school website by clicking on the EOG test for the day.

If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to our Testing Coordinator, Ms. Bonham West, at rwest2@wcpss.net. An FAQ is also available to answer many of your questions..

Media Center Devices: We will not be able to check devices out from the media center for the remainder of the year as these devices have been moved to testing locations in the building. Students should bring their district issued, fully charged Chromebook to school each day.

7th Grade Families:  NC State Law mandates that all rising 7th graders have their TDAP and Meningococcal vaccines.  Please return immunization records showing TDAP and Meningococcal vaccines before school begins in August.  Immunization records may be emailed to Ms. Sepulveda at esepulveda@wcpss.net

8th Grade Families: Enloe High School is hosting a google meet for all 8th grade students attending Enloe in the fall who are interested in athletics. The meeting will be Wednesday, June 2nd at 7pm. The google meet code is EnloeAthletics.

Congratulations: Several Martin students participated in a video contest, The Last Straw  to bring awareness to the environmental impact of plastic straws. Sydney Petty placed in the top 3 of all middle school entries. Congratulations Sydney!

North Carolina Lung Cancer Initiative Fundraiser: A huge thank you for all the contributions to the North Carolina Lung Cancer Initiative Fundraiser that ran from May 18-May 21.  The total raised was $1059.60. Sixth grade contributed $221.68, 7th grade contributed $270.25, and 8th grade contributed $567.47. Since 8th grade raised the most money, that means that Mr. Kimbro will be creating a TikTok dance! Stay tuned for when that will be available.

Chromebooks and Hot Spots: All hot spots must be returned at the end of the school year. All hot spots are to be returned by June 9th. Students leaving WCPSS at the end of the school year must return their Chromebooks as well. Students who are returning to Martin or any other WCPSS school in the fall can keep their Chromebook.

Materials Return: All EL novels, library books and other issued materials are to be returned to Martin in the coming days. We will collect all novels and books in carpool and each morning this week. Please write your student’s first and last name on a sticky note on each book you are returning. Bus riders can return novels and other materials directly to their teachers. Instruments and costumes are to be returned directly to the teachers of those classes.

From the PTA:

End of Year Gifting Just Got Easier!

Our middle schoolers are lucky to be taught, counseled, coached, and supported by LOTS of gifted teachers and staff at Martin. So, how do we show our appreciation at the end of the year to so many folks? Enter GiftCrowd! When you visit Martin’s GiftCrowd page, you'll find lists for grade level teachers and aides, support staff, electives teachers, coaches, and administrators. Once there, you can give end of year gifts in any amount to as many groups as you’d like. When the giving period ends, staff members will receive a list of contributors and the total amount gifted (not the amount given by each individual family). Then, staff will be able to select gift cards they'd enjoy most using the money contributed! Get more information on how GiftCrowd works at GiftCrowd.com. Of course, participation is voluntary. And your entire contribution goes to the staff member (no fees are deducted). Woohoo!

7th Grade Field Day Volunteers Needed - Wed 6/9, 10:45-1:00

Seventh grade students and staff will celebrate the end of the year with outdoor activities and treats. If you are available that day, please sign up here to help organize games and serve food during the celebration.
