At Lynn Road Elementary, music classes meet on a weekly basis for 45 minutes. Each class uses the North Carolina Common Core music objectives to explore, create, and experience music. These lessons are based on active participation that use the philosophies of the Orff-Schulwerk approach to teaching music. Orff-Schulwerk's purpose is to support and nurture children's creativity while building musicianship. Often you will find the integration of music, movement, speech, and drama intertwined into a lesson. To see Orff-Schulwerk in action, please look at this two minute video.
In addition to the weekly classes, 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students have the opportunity to participate in a club. Paw Print Performers is a performing group that meets during that club time on Fridays. They play Orff instruments, recorders, sing, and move. At the end of the semester, they will showcase their hard work with a performance for their family and the school. Any student is invited to be a part of Paw Print Performers. To find more information about the performances please look at the Lynn Road Elementary music website.
