I would like to reiterate how proud I am of the brave students who came forward on Wednesday regarding the threatening posts on social media. Their actions highlight what a wonderful job you are all doing at home to raise conscientious young adults and the strong relationships they have formed with teachers here at Daniels. Administration is working closely with Daniels staff and the county to determine areas of growth for providing a safe learning environment. Please do not hesitate to reach out to me with questions or concerns. Thank you to the PTA, and especially Ms. Alphin, for putting in countless hours to prepare, organize, and run an outstanding Blue Jack Jamboree.

A really great week highlighted by the Winter Sports Banquet and Blue Jacket Jamboree Pep Rally. Coach McGuire did an amazing job organizing and leading both events. Students received information related to the Blue Jacket Jamboree Fundraiser. They will have the opportunity to sell raffle tickets next week to win prizes and raise money for Daniels. We have a new lead secretary, Joan Gutierrez, starting on Monday. Some of you may remember Joan as our former receptionist. The lead secretary works closely with teachers and the community, and I know you are going to love her. Remember that Monday was a workday, but because of the snow, it is now an instructional day. We all are deeply upset by the tragedy the occurred in Parkland, Florida this week. Wake County has provided a response that I recommend all parents read. You can find it here. This a busy time of year, so be sure to scroll down and read what applies to your family.

We officially finished our winter sports season. Thanks to all of our coaches and all the parental support that made this a successful season. No rest for the weary as we immediately transition to spring tryouts this week (starts Monday). Congratulations to the 576 students earning Honor Roll for the second quarter. Honor Roll is an attainable goal for all of our students. We had an unbelievable Teacher Appreciation Week put on by the PTA. With our passports, the PTA took us on a culinary trip around the globe. Words cannot express how grateful Daniels is to have such a supportive community.

Two weeks of school in a row (we won’t mention that 2 hour delay on Tuesday)! Report cards were distributed on Friday, so be sure to follow-up with your child on their progress. New electives are a week in, so start asking questions at home regarding what your child is learning in their new class. We had a wonderful turnout for our Winter Band Concert. Great job by Ms. Yosai and putting on another spectacular performance. Science Olympiad is competing Saturday at Southeast Raleigh High School and we want to wish them the best of luck. I’ve added some pictures of the new landscaping and plants. We are so fortunate to have such a wonderful PTA and community!
