Ms. Dawn Edwards

Mrs. Edwards was reared in Kinston, North Carolina and attended Lenoir County Public Schools. After graduating from Kinston High School, Mrs. Edwards attended North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University, where she received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education. Upon graduating from North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University, Mrs. Edwards returned to Kinston to teach mathematics at Rochelle Middle School. After teaching for five years in Kinston, Mrs. Edwards moved to Charlotte, North Carolina and thereafter to Greensboro, North Carolina to teach middle school mathematics and to serve as a math coach for the next 10 years. With the understanding that a good education is extremely essential to grow and succeed in life, Mrs. Edwards continued her studies at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University to receive a Master of Education in Adult Education with a concentration in counseling. A few years after receiving her master’s degree in education, Mrs. Edwards applied for the Principal Fellows scholarship and was selected as a member of class 10. In 2005, Mrs. Edwards received her Master of School Administration from North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University.

Prior to moving to Raleigh in 2010, Mrs. Edwards served as an assistant principal at Kinston High School and North Lenoir High School.

Moving to Raleigh, North Carolina was an exciting time for Mrs. Edwards. She and her husband, Forest, are proud to call Raleigh, North Carolina home. She worked as an assistant principal at Durant Road Middle School for many years. During her years at Durant Road Middle, she obtained her Cross -Categorical Special Education certification.  Mrs. Edwards is a life-long learner and plans to continue her education by enrolling in North Carolina Central University ‘s Law School. She has a passion for the law and wants to give a voice to underrepresented populations.

Mrs. Edward’s stands true to her passion in education which is to envision, empower, and engage students, teachers and parents in the educational process by using collaboration and teamwork to create a shared vision of academic success for all students.

As a daily remainder of her purpose, Mrs. Edwards reflects on the following quote: History will judge us by the difference we make in the everyday lives of children. Let us all resolve to put children at the center of all we do.  They must be the motivation of every decision we make.”

Mrs. Edwards is privileged to serve as the assistant principal at Beaverdam Elementary School and is honored to be a part of the Beaverdam community.  She is looking forward to working with all Beaverdam families.
