Message From Mrs. MacWilliams
Dear Carroll Families,
Someday is now at Carroll Leadership in Technology Magnet Middle School. Our students are leaders, critical thinkers, digital engineers, dreamers, entrepreneurs, and gamers whose learning needs continue to shape and reshape best instructional practices and the process of learning and teaching at our great school. I am so proud of the grit, perseverance, and determination that are evident in all of our classrooms each and every day.
The learning journey is the destination.
Since the start of the 2015-16 school year, Carroll’s instructional leaders have prioritized the facilitation of challenged-based learning within objective, mastery driven classrooms, and the integration of authentic and purposeful technology into core instruction. Additionally, our learners are receiving specific, timely feedback, with a heightened emphasis on the process of learning to motivate optimal academic outcomes. Our goal is to cultivate an environment of learners who are eager to acquire new knowledge, who are equipped with a solid academic foundation of skills, and who are prepared to embark upon innovative learning endeavors in a world characterized by constant change.
In addition to rigorous classroom experiences, Carroll students are having fun at school. Our discovery classes, leadership exhibitions, club and extracurricular offerings, and athletics programs are just a few of the exciting learning opportunities that are inspiring our middle schoolers to connect and apply their academic and functional skills to real world context.
As part of Carroll’s very important School Improvement process, our vision, mission, and values have been completely rewritten to reflect our community’s current beliefs and priorities, which are aligned with the Wake County Public School System’s Strategic Plan. Carroll’s School Improvement team also constructed a single goal that encapsulates our priority objective to increase student achievement, while eliminating the achievement gap among student subgroups. Key processes and action steps were developed to support progress-monitoring our students’ learning and to inform deliberate and purposeful instruction within our classrooms.
Vision: Carroll Leadership in Technology Magnet Middle School students will be prepared to reach their full potential and lead productive lives as happy, healthy, resilient problem solvers in a complex and changing world.
Mission: Wake County Public School System will provide a relevant and engaging education and will graduate students who are collaborative, creative, effective communicators, and critical thinkers.Values: We believe every student is uniquely capable and deserves to be challenged and engaged in relevant, rigorous, and meaningful learning each day. We believe every student must be expected to learn, grow, and succeed while we will eliminate the ability to predict achievement based on socioeconomic status, race, and ethnicity.Goal: By 2020, Carroll students will be happy, healthy, resilient problem-solvers who are college and career ready and achieve an overall proficiency of 70% or better composite in Reading, Math, and Science, as measured by district and site-based surveys, competency rubrics, digital portfolios, and state and local assessments.
Along with strengthening core instruction, the Carroll team is in the process of revising our Positive Behavior Interventions & Supports (PBIS) plan. Consistency, integrity, fidelity, and sustainability are key factors in this process, which aims to motivate optimal leadership skills among our entire school community.
Thank you for your continued collaboration and support. It is a tremendous privilege to serve your family.Elizabeth MacWilliamsProud Principal & Lead Learner
