Thank you to everyone who attended our Cultural Arts Night and Book Fair on Tuesday! We had a fabulous turn-out and it was an evening full of learning, awareness, exploration, and fun! A special thank you to Ms. Brown, Mr. Brodnick, Mrs. Bryan, Mrs. Bailey, and Ms. Drew for coordinating the evening and to all of our teachers and staff who helped with the activities.
We appreciate the following families who also volunteered to host stations about their own culture and traditions - we learned so much from you all!
The Choi Family, The El Kharboutly Family, The Missal Family, The Jayakody Family, and The Sayanakar Family
A big shout out to our PTA for an awesome Book Fair this week - we know it took many volunteers to make it happen and we can’t thank you all enough!
Afternoon Dismissal
Please do not change transportation home for children after 2:00PM. We want to make sure that dismissal is smooth and safe for all of our students. Thank you for your cooperation in making this a priority.
Community & Family Academy Parent Workshops
Please visit: Community Family Academy Parent Workshops and Facebook Page to learn more about the many workshops offered by WCPSS for families. These workshops are in person and virtually and are hosted in English and Spanish!
September is Attendance Awareness Month
We are excited to see your child everyday so they can learn as much as possible this school year. Good attendance will help your child do well in school, college, or their career. Missing 10% of school (about 18 days) can hurt them academically. Any time missed in the classroom (excused or unexcused) is a lost opportunity to learn. If you have questions or concerns about getting your child to school, please contact our School Social Worker, Tara Pratt-Brooks at tpratt-brooks@wcpss.net.

PTA News
This year is off to a great start! The PTA has so many fun and exciting events taking place, so please take a moment to read through!
Go, Play, Save
The Go, Play, Save fundraiser is ongoing through September 7th. These popular books are a win-win: families get to save money while helping us raise funds for a great cause. ALL the money raised from this fundraiser will go directly towards lowering the cost of field trips. The annual cost of field trips for our school is around $9,600. We’ve set an ambitious goal of $8,000 which would significantly reduce the cost. Get your orders in... fundraiser ends September 7th! If you do not plan on buying the sample book that was sent home, please return it to your child’s teacher.
September – Membership Drive Month
Join the HES PTA... we won’t make you volunteer (we promise). Throughout the month of September our focus is to grow our membership. Last year we had 200 members and this year we’d like to see that grow to 300 members. Fees are $17 for a family membership and $12 for a single adult. When you sign up and join the money given goes toward paying our state and national dues. The remaining funds are used to fulfill grant requests from our teachers. By fulfilling these grants, our teachers are able to provide their students with necessary classroom supplies without having to spend their own money. Thank you for supporting our PTA and our amazing school community. Click here to join the PTA
Fall Grounds Clean Up Day
We are excited to announce the HES Fall Grounds Clean Up Day on September 28th from 9am to 1pm, meet in the front parking lot! We are looking for parents and students to join us in giving our school some TLC. We will be clearing away rock and debris near the playground area and pulling weeds and tidying up the sidewalks in front of the school. We will also discuss future clean-up dates. This is a great opportunity to give back to our school community and make our campus a cleaner and more welcoming place for everyone. If you have gardening gloves and a push broom handy bring them along.

Birthday Lunch
We love seeing the smiles on the kids' faces when parents and school celebrate the children together during birthday lunch. The updated gift bags have been a BIG HIT! Come celebrate your child with us. Two reminders: No Sweet Treats during Birthday Lunch and Parents are asked to leave BEFORE the students to help us transition to the next lunch easily.
September Birthday Lunches:
12th - Track 4
30th - Track 1 & 3
Volunteers: Birthday Lunch - Q1(sign up)
HES 2024 Fall Festival
It’s about that time y’all! The HES Fall Festival is just around the corner (October 18th). So, get out your Claritin (we will have hay) and rock, paper, scissors your spouse to see who has to take the kiddos (because kids must be accompanied by an adult).
This is a FREE PTA sponsored event for the entire family to enjoy. We will have $1 pizza slices, food trucks and fun activities for the kids.
You all know where this is headed...we need volunteers to make this event a success. We would love as many parent volunteers as possible BUT there is a secondary solution...Do you have kids in middle, high school or college that need to fulfill service hours OR do you have a kiddo that likes to lend a hand and help? (lucky you) If so just email hesptanc@gmail.com for more information.
Facebook Group
In order to be able to safely share dates of upcoming events for HES, we have opted to open a private Facebook group. You can join by clicking this link. General information will still be shared via the HES Facebook Page. PTA Facebook Link
