PTA Board Advisory Council Meeting

The District 3 Board Advisory Council Meeting will be held at Abbotts Creek Elementary on Monday, February 26th from 6:00-7:00pm.

The evening's topics include: How do schools get capped?  Who gets to attend capped schools?  How is my base school determined? If you've ever asked these questions please come to the next Board Advisory Council meeting and hear representatives from the Department of School Assignment explain how it works.  Our School Board representative, Wing Ng will also be there to give district updates and answer any questions you may have.  This meeting is open to the public.

Single Subject Acceleration

Single Subject Acceleration (SSA) is the practice of placing a student in a higher-grade level in one subject area. This type of acceleration is for the purpose of providing access to appropriately challenging learning opportunities in either math or English Language Arts.  Your child will be skipping an entire year’s worth of content and background knowledge.

Is your child a good candidate for SSA Testing?

*Is your child at the top of the class in math or reading?

*Your child will be taking classes with peers who are older. If your child qualifies for SSA, their schedule may not allow for them to attend specials, lunch, or recess with their assigned grade level. This means they will attend with an upper or lower grade level.

*Can your child begin or complete projects by themselves?

*Will your child be successful in the 5th grade when they are completing assignments on their own when they have a virtual teacher?

*Consider your child’s organizational skills and ability to focus.

*Consider your child’s social and emotional maturity.
