Sunday Night Announcements - Week of January 17th

     Hello Wonderful Wendell Families,

Here are the Sunday Night Announcements for the week of January 17th:

     New Stuff

No School on Monday or Tuesday

There will be no school for students on Monday, January 17th (MLK Jr. holiday) or Tuesday, January 18th (WCPSS teacher workday).  Students will return to school on Wednesday, January 19th.

Title One Funding and Meal Benefits

Reiterating last Thursday's message:  Please help WES continue to receive our Title One funding in 2022-2023 by completing a meal benefits application online at MySchoolApps.com.  Paper applications can be requested by calling 919-588-3535.  As of this message, we are still 23 applications short of our funding threshold.

     Science and Engineering Fair

3rd, 4th and 5th grade families... Please see this save-the-date flyer regarding our Science and Engineering Fair (sponsored by the PTA) on March 29th.

     2022-2023 Magnet Information

     From the WCPSS Magnet Department:

If you have a student currently in 5th grade at a magnet school, you MUST APPLY if you wish to continue at a magnet school at the next grade level.  Apply now at magnet.wcpss.net/apply.  The deadline to apply is January 27.  Please visit wcpss.net/magnet for information about upcoming recruitment events.

Rising kindergarten siblings of magnet students in grades K-4 MUST enroll and apply to attend the same school as the older sibling.  5th grade siblings of magnet students at the next grade level have already been assigned to the same magnet as the older sibling.

Families, please email Tamani Anderson-Powell (tanderson-powell@wcpss.net) the name of the sibling for confirmation.

     Friendly Reminders

     Student Wellness Reminders

Please keep your child(ren) at home if experiencing any of the following symptoms:

  • Fever or chills
  • Cough
  • Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
  • Fatigue
  • Muscle or body aches
  • Headache
  • New loss of taste or smell
  • Sore throat
  • Congestion or runny nose
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Diarrhea

After your child takes a PCR test, please do not send them to school until you have the results showing "negative", at which point you can email those results to dpippin@wcpss.net.

Thanks for doing your part to keep our students and staff healthy!

     Proper Wearing of Face Coverings

With cases on the rise across WCPSS, here is a reminder about the importance of our children wearing face coverings properly while on campus here at WES:

In the event of an positive case at school, if face coverings have been worn appropriately (over nose, mouth, and under chin) and consistently by both the person with COVID-19 and the potentially exposed child, then the potentially exposed child does not need to quarantine.  Wearing a face covering properly may end up keeping your child(ren) at school instead of at home for two weeks!

Please consider having this discussion regularly with your child(ren), as we want to keep as many kids on campus for in-person learning as possible.

     Essential Visitors on Campus

Determining what constitutes an “essential visitor” is now a school-based decision in WCPSS.  Here at WES, there are four circumstances under which families will be admitted into the building:

     - Checking your child(ren) in late

     - Checking your child(ren) out early

     - The office has contacted you asking you to come pick up your child

     - You have a scheduled meeting with a WES staff member

Thanks for your cooperation... Please contact the front office with any questions/concerns.

Sign Up for the Spirit Rock

The WES Spirit Rock is a great way to celebrate your student! Here's how:

     1) Email WES PTA (wendellespta@gmail.com) to reserve the week you want to paint the rock.

     2) After you receive confirmation for your week, pay the $25 fee on memberhub here:
