School Tours for Prospective 2025-2026 Scotts Ridge Families

We will be hosting two kinds of tours for prospective Scotts Ridge families as noted below. Please share this message with family, friends, and neighbors, who might be interested.

  1. Click here if your child is currently assigned to another WCPSS school, but your child would be reassigned to Scotts Ridge as a base school based on the latest student enrollment proposal. These tours are intended primarily for Olive Chapel families considering their options with the new plan because they are likely to have an earlier deadline. We will have tours on 10/28 and 11/18.
  2. Click here if you have a child in rising kindergarten for 2025-2026, or a child in a private or charter school, and you are interested in a tour as you consider your options for the 2025-2026 school year. We will have tours on 12/09, 01/06, 01/17, and 01/22.

Congratulations to Mrs. Weber, Peak Star Award Winner for Town of Apex!

Mrs. Weber was recognized for her contributions to the school community by the Apex Public School Foundation and Apex Town Council at the September 24th town council meeting.

Minimizing Classroom Disruptions (Changes Start Tuesday. . .)

We need your help! Our instructional staff and administration have become very concerned with the frequency of interruptions to instruction in the classroom caused by parents bringing items for their children. A lack of instructional time is always a concern for our staff as we look to help every student reach his/her full potential, and we are hoping you can help us in one significant way. Every day, we have many parents coming to school with water bottles, missing school supplies,  lunches, and more. Our office staff members have been frequently calling classrooms to ask teachers to send students to the office for these dropped-off items. Every call is a disruption to the critical instruction taking place in the classroom. Some parents have been dropping off items multiple times each week. Some classes have regularly dealt with multiple interruptions daily. Parents sending TalkingPoints messages or emails does not solve the problem because teachers are engaged in instruction and not able to check messages throughout the day.

Starting on Tuesday, October 15th, we will be doing everything possible to avoid interrupting instruction. If students forget their water bottle, they can use the water fountains throughout the school. If students forget their lunch, they can buy their lunch if parents have added money to their lunch accounts. It would help to mention this option to your children ahead of time. If parents have been in the habit of bringing hot meals regularly, they should consider special containers that are able to keep their children's meals warm until lunch. Although not ideal, parents may also drop off a lunch on a cart in the office before 10:30 AM. The lunch should be clearly labeled with the name of the student. Please join us in encouraging your children to let the teacher know if they ever find that they do not have a lunch at lunch time so that the teacher can make sure that they have a lunch or can buy lunch. If students forget materials, homework, or special items for themed days at home, they can bring the items to school the next day if appropriate.

We appreciate your support as we work together to support effective instruction for all our students and teachers. We hope you understand that our desire to solve this problem is about the cumulative effect of these interruptions. We cannot thank you enough for your support and patience as we look to ensure the best possible learning environment for our Scotts Ridge Sailors!

Bedford Falls Book Fair is Here!

We are so excited to have the Bedford Falls Book Fair at Scotts Ridge again this year! The fall book fair will run from October 14-25. Your student will preview the book fair with their class October 15-18 and will bring home a wish list. Look this over with your child and send in money or create a KidCredit digital account to purchase on their buy day. Bedford Falls does not add sales tax to book prices. Any remaining balance in KidCredit accounts will be refunded after the fair via the original form of payment. Please make sure to send in your KidCredit certificate to school with your child. NEW THIS YEAR: KidCredit can now be set up with all major credit cards, not just PayPal! Set up a KidCredit account here: https://kidcredit.bedfordfallsusa.com/kidCredit.php?fairID=17411
Students will be coming in with their class to buy at the Book Fair from October 21-25. No purchasing will be able to be made prior to October 21st.

Teachers will have wish list books in labeled book bins in the Media Center that they would love to have for their classroom libraries. Most of these books are less than $10. Feel free to send in extra money with your student to purchase a book that they can deliver to their teacher with a personalized book plate. You are also welcome to send in a KidCredit donation to your teacher and they can use it to shop at the Book Fair for new books for their classroom library.

We need lots of volunteers to help make the Book Fair run smoothly! You must be an approved WCPSS volunteer in order to help.
