We know that the summer has begun, but a few of us are still hard at work, preparing for another exciting year at Scotts Ridge! I wanted to share the schedule for kindergarten staggered entry days to help you plan for the start of the school year. Please call Mrs. Alvarez in the office if you have any questions. Kindergarten Staggered Entry

During the first five days of school, we have a scheduled “staggered entry” for our kindergarten students. This means that your child will only attend one full day of school in a small group environment between Tuesday, August 27th and Friday, August 31th. No kindergarten students attend school on Tuesday, September 3rd as kindergarten teachers finalize balanced class lists and prepare their rooms for the arrival of students. 

 

Each staggered entry day will begin as a regular school day with arrival between 8:45 and 9:10. Students may arrive by bus, carpool, or walking (only if living in the walker zone). Students are welcome to stay the entire day. However, we find that many students find this first day tiring, so our staff front-loads the necessary assessments earlier in the day. Parents are welcome to pick up their children at a special early dismissal in the carpool line at 2:00. Parents, if you have childcare or transportation concerns, or would simply prefer that your child stay until dismissal at 3:45, please email our grade-level chair, Ms. McDaniel, at emcdaniel@wcpss.net, to make arrangements. 

 

Students have been assigned a staggered entry day by last name as outlined below. Please send your child on his/her assigned day to ensure that each child receives the individualized attention that he/she deserves. 

 

Tuesday, August 27th: students with last names A-GO

Wednesday, August 28th: students with last names GR-M

Thursday, August 29th: students with last names N-SI

Friday, August 30th: students with last names SM-Z

Special Note About Preschool and our ECS Special Education Classroom

Preschool and ECS schedules and events do not always mirror those of the rest of the school. Teachers will be sending out a message about preschool and ECS events. Their contact information is below if you have any urgent questions after they return on August 21st.

Upcoming Dates

08/24, 9:30-10:30: Popsicles with the Principal (kindergarten playdate) on the K-2 playground. Please leave older siblings at home if at all possible. 

08/26, 4:00-6:00 PM: Meet the Teacher for first grade and up.

08/27: First day of school for students in first grade and up.

08/27-08/30: Kindergarten staggered entry days. See description above.

09/02: Labor Day (no school)

09/03: No kindergarten students attend.

09/03, 4:30-5:30 PM: Kindergarten Meet the Teacher.

09/04: All kindergarten students begin attending daily. 

09/04, 9:30-10:15: Optional Welcome Aboard Q & A for Kindergarten Parents/Guardians

09/20: Teacher Workday (no school for students)
