Ship Notes 01/19/2023

New Assistant Principal: Mrs. Angie Griffin

At the last school board meeting, Mrs. Angela (Angie) Griffin was approved as the next assistant principal of Scotts Ridge Elementary. Angie has been the assistant principal at Dillard Drive Magnet Elementary since 2019. Prior to that, she was an intervention teacher and taught first and second grade. More importantly, she has a track record of dedication, kindness, and working collaboratively with all stakeholders in the school community. She will be a great addition to our school community!

Mrs. Griffin will start with us on February 20th. An interim assistant principal will support us from February 8th-17th, but I am not able to share the name of the interim assistant principal until the board formally approves this individual at their February 7th meeting.

Sailor Fun Fridays

I shared this a couple of times at the beginning of the year, but my goal is to do a better job of advance notice when reminding families of the dates in the second semester. Please save the dates! If your child is interested in participating tomorrow, all he/she has to do is wear nicer clothes than on a normal school day. How far he/she wants to take this is wide open!

01/20: Dress to Impress Friday

02/24: Crazy Sock Friday

03/27-30: Fleet Week Spirit Week (Details coming.)

04/28: Pajama Friday

05/19: Dress Like Your Future Career Friday

06/09: Class Choice Friday (last day of school)

Meet the Teacher for Mrs. Hussey: January 25th, 8:00-8:40 AM

Since Mrs. Hussey started in the middle of the year, parents/guardians did not have the opportunity to meet her at our beginning-of-the-year Meet the Teacher event. Because she did not have any workdays before her first day of instruction in January, we wanted to give her the opportunity to get settled. Now that she has had the opportunity to get readjusted, she is inviting parents/guardians from her class and Ms. Birecree's class for an informal Meet the Teacher drop-in event next Wednesday, January 25th, from 8:00-8:40 AM. If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. Hussey at dhussey@wcpss.net

Ahoy Scotts Ridge Families!

We are currently in the process of organizing our first ever International Festival scheduled for Thursday, April 20th from 5:30-7:00 pm. International Festival Night at Scotts Ridge will promote global learning and highlight our school’s ties to the international community. This event is an opportunity for families to interact with one another at school, be unified by pride in our children, and celebrate all the richness and benefits we get from living in a diverse community.

Each grade level will have the opportunity to showcase, and display in their classrooms or hallways, specific examples of student work based on the grade-level content and/or curriculum standards that have been taught and learned throughout the school year. This is a great event that celebrates diversity and promotes awareness, respect, and cooperation among cultures and nations. We would like for you and/or your child to participate by sharing your culture, connecting us with a business who would be willing to participate, or simply attending the event with our child. There are a variety of ways that you could represent your culture, including but not limited to: sharing food samples, music, art, or traditions. Please know that you are not committing to participate by filling out our interest form. We will use this information for further communication while planning our event.

Please click on a link below with your preferred language questionnaire. If you have any questions, please email chamme@wcpss.net and emcdaniel@wcpss.net

Sincerely,

International Night Committee

Scotts Ridge Family Partnership Survey

At Scotts Ridge, we believe that we can best support students when we collaborate effectively with families. We are aware that some families find it challenging to get involved at school and collaborate with school staff. We would love your feedback to help us identify priorities for increasing family collaboration and engagement. Please click here for more details and to complete the survey. We would appreciate it if you would complete the survey as soon as possible, and no later than Friday, January 20th Sunday, January 22nd. For the survey results to be meaningful, helpful to our long-range planning, and representative of our diverse community, we need a majority of our families to participate in the survey.

(Thank you to those families who have already completed the survey.)
