Principal's Message - Week of September 30
Dear Bryan Road Elementary Families:
Teacher Workday
Thursday, October 3 and Monday, October 14 are teacher workdays. There will be no school for students.
Boosterthon Kick-off!
We're excited to introduce this year's main fundraiser, the Bryan Road Elementary Fun Run. Our goal this year is to raise $30,000 for a new innovative outdoor classroom space to benefit ALL students at Bryan Road Elementary.
We’re excited for this fundraising experience because it offers 3 important things to our school community:
1️⃣ User-friendly fundraising platform
2️⃣ Character enrichment program
3️⃣ Fitness-focused event that includes ALL of our students
As a family, you will work together asking friends and family to donate on your student’s Donation Page at MyBooster.com. The best part is, you can still support our school just by SHARING about the fundraiser!
Students will also experience an amazing character enrichment program called “Castle Quest”, teaching students about how to be brave and live with character.
Key Dates to Remember:
🎉 Fundraiser Kickoff in school – 09/30/2024
👟 Event Day – 10/09/2024
Petey’s Parent Night
Please join us for our fall curriculum night to learn about simple ways to help your child learn at home, discover what your child’s daily schedule is like, and get an overview of what your child will learn this year. Mark your calendar for Wednesday, October 2. Teachers will share the same session twice at 5:00 and 6:00. Childcare will be available.
Join AIG Teacher Jessie Hollinger for a repeated session in the media center sharing important information regarding student identification and instructional services.
Fall Picture Day
Our fall picture day is scheduled for Tuesday, October 8. Students will participate with their homeroom class. No payment is required on picture day. Please visit Strawbridge, click Order Pictures, and use the code FM455352.
Bunco Tournament
The Garner Educational Foundation is pleased to host this year’s Bunco Tournament on October 4 from 6:30 pm - 9:30 pm at the Garner Civitan Club. A light supper will be provided along with tournament and door prizes. Come have a night of fun with proceeds benefiting Garner area schools.
Fun Run Safety
In support of our student and staff safety, we ask that only board approved volunteers who have signed up for the event plan to be on campus for our October 9 Fun Run. Photos of the event will be posted through the school and PTA social media outlets.
PTA Car Rider Safety Tips
A few friendly reminders to help speed up carpool and ensure students' safety
-
Please always put your car in park when loading students.
-
Please do not use your cell phone when students are loading.
-
Please have your child enter the car on the inside lane. If your child cannot enter on a certain side, please make sure you get in the correct lane. We do not want children to walk around to the outside lanes
-
Please remain in your car. Your child should be able to get in without help.
-
If your child did not load, please signal a thumbs down and proceed to the late loading area (parking spots on the right side)
-
Please keep your number visible throughout carpool
Returning from an Absence
Upon your child’s return, you have two days to provide one of the following:
-
A handwritten note
-
A Talking Points message to your child’s teacher
-
An email to your child’s teacher
-
A doctor’s note
Please feel free to contact our main office or Saadia Bookhardt-Smith, School Social Worker, for more information.
Boost Time
At Bryan Road Elementary, we have a 25 minute period in our day for Reading Boost and a 25 minute period during the day for Math Boost. This is a time when ALL students go to a small group that is designed to BOOST them up from where they are at. Some of these groups are enrichment, some are on-level practice, and some are remediation.
We use our student learning data to tell us what needs our students have and which Boost group they need to attend. Your child needs support and is receiving small group instruction during Boost. The intervention teacher will be providing this support and will be reviewing progress throughout the semester. We will regroup students based on their needs each time we conduct monthly reviews of their progress.
Gifted Re-testing for 4th and 5th Grade Students
The WCPSS AIG department seeks to identify all students who are eligible for and in need of academically and/or intellectually gifted (AIG) services. All WCPSS third grade students will be given the opportunity to take standardized group tests to help identify those eligible for services. Students who do not qualify for services as a third grader, but show growth and gifted potential, should be renominated and considered by the School Based Committed for Gifted Education for testing in the future. However, retesting students on a frequent basis is taxing. Only those students who demonstrate gifted potential should be renominated.
If your 4th or 5th grade student shows a potential need for gifted education, please complete the form by 12PM October 14th . Here's the link to the nomination form: https://bit.ly/GiftedReTest
Testing will be held October 21st - 25th.
*No study materials are provided for gifted testing.
3rd Grade Gifted Testing
Did you know that all 3rd grade students in WCPSS are given a gifted screener called the Cognitive Abilities Test? They have 3 practice sessions with the AIG teacher where they will learn to solve word analogies, number puzzles, and nonverbal puzzles. The screener test is scheduled for November 4th, 6th, and 7th starting at 9:30 AM. Families will get more information about the universal gifted screener on Petey's Parent night Oct. 2nd. You can also email the AIG teacher Jessie Hollinger with any questions. (jhollinger@wcpss.net)
