Principal's Message - Week of September 2

Dear Bryan Road Elementary Families:

School Holiday

Monday, September 2 is the Labor Day Holiday. There will be no school for students and staff.

Teacher Workday

Friday, September 20 is a teacher workday. There will be no school for students.

Car Rider Dismissal

We appreciate everyone’s patience and cooperation as we begin a new school year with our car riders. To support our system of preparing students to exit the building and find their cars, it would be helpful for drivers to remain in the lane assigned by Ms. Irvin as she records tag numbers. When cars stay in the order entered into our system, students are able to find their cars more quickly and accurately.

Responsive Classroom

Our staff always seeks to provide a safe, welcoming, and supportive environment for each student. If you visit campus this year, you may notice hallway and classroom signs reminding students that “A Buccaneer C.A.R.E.S” with guidance for making good choices. Through Responsive Classroom, a student-centered, social and emotional learning approach to teaching and discipline, teachers engage in a set of research, and evidence-based practices designed to create safe, joyful, and engaging classrooms and school communities for both students and teachers.

NC Courage School Night

Make your plans for a night of family fun cheering for the NC Courage! All students are invited to WakeMed Soccer Park for the match and other festivities and opportunities including inflatables, games, scoreboard shoutouts, on-field activities before the match and at halftime, and much more.

NC Courage: Sept. 13, 7:00 pm

Endline North (section 401-407) - $15 per ticket

Sideline East (section 310-307 and 304-301) - $25 per ticket

Late Entry/Early Exit

Beginning on Tuesday, September 3, when students arrive after 9:15 am by personal vehicle, they must be checked in through the front office. The parent/caregiver must plan to park and walk inside with the student to complete the check in process.

Beginning on Tuesday, August 27, early check out ends at 3:00 pm. The parent/caregiver must be on the student’s approved check out list and bring a valid photo ID. If the parent/caregiver arrives after 3:00pm, the office staff will contact the teacher requesting that the student meet the parent/caregiver at the front door at dismissal time.

Lunch with Your Student

Beginning on Monday, September 16, parents/caregivers are welcome to join their students during their lunch block. The parent/caregiver will need to check in through the front office and wait there to meet the student. Lunch will take place at the picnic tables outside the cafeteria. At the end of the lunch period, the parent/caregiver should escort the student back to the front office. Sending a Talking Points message to the teacher would help in making sure the child knows to go to the front office when his/her class goes to lunch.

Forgot Your Lunch?

We appreciate parents/caregivers taking care of students who forgot to bring their lunch with them in the morning. Please make sure lunch boxes or restaurant meals are left at the front desk by 10:30 am. This will help to ensure teachers will know the meal is waiting and can direct students to go by the front office when classes go to the cafeteria. Sending a message through Talking Points to the teacher can help in notifying students.

Birthday Celebrations

We are happy to recognize important milestones for students. We also need to be mindful to maximize instructional time for everyone and honor cultural traditions of our families. Birthday celebrations will take place during your student’s class snack time. Please confirm the time with your child’s teacher and drop off your delivery prior to that snack time. Donations need to be limited to one store bought item for the number of students in the class (cupcakes, cookies, chips, or snack bars). Your child’s teacher can advise about any food allergies in the classroom. Please do not send sheet cakes, ice cream cakes, beverages, and/or treat bags. Thank you for providing special moments.

Serve as a Volunteer

We welcome parent and community volunteers to support our classrooms, special events, and field trips. All WCPSS parent and community volunteers are required to register through the MyVolunteer System (WCPSS volunteers).

Families who were approved to volunteer in the 2023-24 school year received an email on June 1 outlining the simple volunteer renewal process for the 2024-25 school year. We encourage all 2023-2024 approved volunteers to  renew their volunteer status during the renewal window, July 1-Oct. 1. Review details at wcpss.net/volunteers.
