Special Thanks to Volunteers
This week is National Volunteer Week! We want you to know how appreciative we are to all of our Parkside parents and community members who have prioritized serving as a volunteer at Parkside sometime this school year. Since the pandemic we have had less volunteers and the work of few have done so much! We want you to know WE SEE YOU, WE APPRECIATE YOU, and we couldn’t do it without you!
A special thank you to all of the volunteers who came out this weekend to give their time to support at the 5th Grade Dance, and Beautification Day! We had such great support and accomplished so much!
This week is Administrative Professionals Week!
Administrative Professionals Week is this week, and we've got some rockstar admin staff we want to shout out: Ms. Duin, our receptionist; Ms. Cox-Jones, our data manager; and Ms. Schnitzer, our school secretary.
These three are the unsung heroes who keep things ticking along smoothly at Parkside. Whether it's welcoming visitors, keeping our data in check, or making sure everything runs like clockwork behind the scenes, they're always on it with a smile on their faces.
Let's take a moment this week to show them some love and appreciation for all they do. Whether it's a quick thanks in passing, a little note, or even a small token of appreciation, every gesture will mean the world to them.
Join us in celebrating Ms. Duin, Ms. Cox-Jones, and Ms. Schnitzer for being absolute legends and making Parkside the awesome place it is!
Field Day!
It's the best time of year- Field Day! Parkside Field Day will be May 10 for tracks 2 & 4 and May 15 for Tracks 1 & 3. YMCA Before and After School Care Feedback Needed
The YMCA is asking for feedback on whether or not your family will access the before and/or after school program for the 2024-25 school year. Please complete this brief survey by May 1.
A Note About Absences
Coming to school every day, ready to learn, is important for your child's success. It's also required by state law for children between the ages of 7 and 16.
Excused absences include:
- illness or injury
- a death in the family
- health care appointments
- court appearances
- religious observance
- natural disasters
- outside educational opportunities (you'll need to complete the Request For Excused Absence For Educational Reasons Form | Request For Excused Absence For Educational Reasons (Spanish) in advance)
You'll need to provide a note within two days of your child's return to school or the absences will be recorded as unexcused. Your teachers will notify you if there are three or more unexcused absences and will work with you and your child if there is a concern that absences are becoming excessive.
Please note that per policy you will automatically receive an attendance phone call each day your child is absent. WCPSS will also send out attendance letters after (6) unexcused days and again after (10) unexcused days. Your administration and the school Social Worker will also be notified of the excessive absences.
School Supply Kits For The 2024-2025 School Year
School supply kits for the 2024-2025 school year are on sale now until 5/31! Kits will be delivered directly to your door in late June/early July.

Spirit Rock
This school year the PTA is offering families the opportunity to paint our Spirit Rock! For $25 you can paint a birthday message to your child, congratulations on an achievement, good luck on a sporting event - anything you can think of. Payment is due at time of reservation.
