“Love and Learn: A Heartfelt Academic Night for Parents”
Save the date! We are thrilled to announce our upcoming Parent Academy for the second semester, titled "Love and Learn: A Heartfelt Academic Night for Parents." Join us on February 13th for an enriching evening focused on learning strategies and tips to bolster your child's ongoing development and success throughout the latter half of the school year.
We have organized two sessions to accommodate your schedule, with the first session starting at 5:30 and concluding at 6:20, followed by the second session running from 6:30 to 7:20. Each session will be tailored to address the specific needs of your child's grade level, providing you with practical strategies to reinforce your child's learning at home.
Parkside students are welcome to attend, and childcare will be available exclusively for Parkside students during the event.
Mark your calendars for this valuable opportunity to enhance your involvement in your child's academic journey. We look forward to seeing you there!
March 5 - No School for Students
During the January 16 School Board meeting, and in response to community and staff feedback, Board of Education members approved making March 5, 2024 (Primary Election Day) a 'Banked Day' for all 2023-24 instructional calendars. This means there will be no school for students and the day will be designated as a workday for school staff.
Parkside PTA Sponsored Artist in Residence
Our school will host Virginia Kratina Maier for a workshop through the county wide Artists in Schools program. Virginia will be on campus this week to share their Picket Fence Project with our 4th grade students and staff. Please join me in recognizing this program is supported by United Arts Council of Raleigh and Wake County in collaboration with our Parkside PTA.

As a friendly reminder, we would like to remind everyone that the school playground, including the track around the 3-5 playground, is not accessible to the community during school hours. This restriction is in place to ensure the safety and security of our students. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation in adhering to this policy. If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to reach out to the school office. Thank you for your cooperation in creating a safe learning environment for our students.

We are looking for a few volunteers who can dedicate themselves to a weekly time slot. WAKE Up and Read Book Drive
Parkside is participating in the Wake Up and Read Book Drive from 1/17-2/15 to help build home libraries for families around the county. This is a wonderful opportunity to give back to the community. Here is how you can help:
- Great Book Donations
- New or gently-read books for babies & children
- Recently published books that children are excited to read
- Books that reflect the diversity of our community
- Books that are visually appealing and high-interest
- Books that children and families will be proud to own
- Donate Money to help us purchase books from a carefully curated list, developed by librarians from both the school system and public libraries.
- Purchase books from the WAKE Up and Read Wish Lists
Thank you for joining us in this effort! Together we can ensure that every child in Wake County is inspired, equipped, and empowered to read. More information is on the attached flyer. If you have any questions, contact Lindsay Santiago at llsantiago@wcpss.net.

Kindergarten Registration for 2024-25
We're encouraging all families with upcoming kindergarteners to enroll as soon as possible. The sooner we have a count of our base families, the better we can plan for the upcoming 2024-25 school year. Our goal is to maintain our exceptional teachers and adhere to state class size regulations by ensuring we have enough students. Your assistance in spreading the word to our base community for early enrollment is greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance!
Single Subject Acceleration (SSA) and AIG Nomination Windows
Spring SSA Requests
Students meeting qualifying criteria in grades K-7 can take advanced academic content in mathematics or English Language Arts through Single Subject Acceleration (SSA). This ensures opportunities for appropriate levels of academic challenge. Only students who are currently enrolled and attending a WCPSS school during the open nomination and testing window are eligible to be considered for SSA.
Your request for testing must be documented and provided to the SSA Coordinator at your school. The request must clearly indicate which one subject you wish for your student to be tested. Please visit Parkside's AIG website to learn more about this process and to submit your request.
Spring AIG Nominations
Students (K - 5th) may be nominated by a parent, classroom teacher and/or other school personnel at any time during the school year. However, students who were evaluated this year or last year (completed the CogAT and/or Iowa) must wait at least 12 months before reevaluation. Please visit Parkside's AIG website to learn more about this process and to submit your nomination.
All test requests and/or nominations must be submitted before the deadline listed within Parkside's AIG Newsletter. If you have any questions along the way, please feel free to contact your school’s SSA Coordinator (rgilmer@wcpss.net).
