    • Parent Interest and Talent Survey: Powell Elementary has many programs and events that support our students' academic success.  Many parents and community partners are involved in making these events fun, engaging, and worthwhile.  If you are interested and willing to help in any way, we can suggest opportunities that match your time, talents, or resources.  Please take a few minutes and complete a PARENT INTEREST AND TALENT SURVEY for each individual parent and family member.  Please complete this survey as soon as possible. 
    • Box Tops Collection: It’s time for our first Box Tops collection.  Please send in your Box Tops by tomorrow, October 23rd. Check your Box Tops at home, there is a November 1st expiration date fast approaching.  Be on the lookout for some fun Box Top collection raffles coming soon.

    • PTA Reflections Arts Program: PTA Reflections is a nationally acclaimed student recognition program to encourage artistic creativity in the classroom and at home. Students of all grades and abilities may participate and explore the arts based on the 2017-2018 theme: Within Reach.  Submission due date is this Tuesday, October 24th.
    • Unity Day of Bullying Prevention – Wear an ORANGE SHIRT – Wednesday, October 25th.  Wear ORANGE in the school, workplace, home, and community.  It can be an orange T-Shirt, tie, wristband, socks, or even shoelaces.  Let’s pull together and unit in a day against bullying.
    • Science Night: Join us this Thursday, October 26th for Science Night.  Students and families will visit many hands on stations with lots of learning opportunities.  There will also be a live animal station.  A FREE Pizza dinner will be served from 5:30 - 6:15 PM.  Science stations will be open from 6:00 - 7:00 PM.  

    • Ident-a-Kid - Friday, October 27thIdent-a-Kid is a child ID card which provides parents and law enforcement with crucial information should your child become lost or mission.

    • Disability History and Awareness Month: October is Disability History and Awareness Month (DHAM).  DHAM is an opportunity for student's and citizens to learn about the many abilities that people with disabilities possess.  This year's theme is "PossABILITIES."  Our students and staff will be participating in lessons and activities to promote awareness.

    • National Bullying Prevention Month: Every October, schools across the county join STOMP Out Bullying in observing National Bullying Prevention Month. The goal is to encourage communities to work together to stop bullying and cyberbullying by increasing awareness of the prevalence and impact of bullying on all children of all ages. Our students and staff will be participating in lessons and activities to promote awareness.

    • Race for Education – We are one week away from PTA’s biggest and only fundraiser for the year on Monday, October 30th.  Please, reach out to your friends and family and remind them that we are counting on their support.  We are ½ way to our $15,000 goal!  The schedule for Race day is as follows:

    5th grade - 9:30-10:25

    4th grade - 10:30-11:25

    1st grade - 11:30-12:25

    Lunch for volunteers - 12:30-1:25

    Pre-K/K/CCK - 1:30-2:25

    2nd & 3rd grade - 2:30-3:25

    • Early Release Day: This Friday, October 20th is our next Early Release Day.  Students will be dismissed at 1:15 PM. 
    • Early Release Day Teacher Luncheon: PTA will be hosting our 2nd Early Release Teacher Luncheon! This time they are putting together a fun Hot Dog bar for our terrific staff! Please sign up here to bring an item or help if you can!

    • CogAT Testing: Attention 3rd graders, CogAT testing will take play this Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.  The CogAT is a series of short, timed assessments that are used to help identify AIG students.

World Day of Bullying Prevention: The first Monday of each October is Blue Shirt Day® World Day of Bullying Prevention™ which signifies the importance of National Bullying Prevention Awareness Month each October.  All staff and students are encouraged to wear a BLUE SHIRT, Tomorrow, Monday, October 2nd.

    • Walk to School Day: Join us this Wednesday, October 4th to celebrate the benefits of walking to school during International Walk to School Day. Meet us in the Little Caesars parking lot 1100 Raleigh Blvd.  Registration begins at 7:45 AM.  Our walk will begin at 8:15 AM.  Parents, please join us in the walk.  Please sign the waiver and plan to walk with your child.   

    • Read to Achieve Parent Meeting: 3rd grade parents are invited to join us in the Media Center this Wednesday, October 4th at 8:45 AM to learn about the Read to Achieve requirements.

    • United Skates of America School Skate Party: Join us for a fun PTA spirit night at United Skates of America on Trawick Rd. on Thursday, October 5th from 6:00 - 8:30 PM.  Admission - $3.00, Skate Rentals - $3.50.  If we have 75 people attend and pay admission, Powell PTA will receive $1.50 for every paying person.  Invite your friends and family to come out for a fun night of skating.
