In order to attend Barwell Elementary School, parents / guardians must reside in the Barwell Elementary attendance area or have been approved through the school choice assignment plan. Board Policy requires that parents present proof of residence. If you move during the school year, board policy requires that parents request special permission for their child to remain at Barwell. It is also very important that you notify our office immediately if there is a change in address. Listed below are documents that serve as proof of residence.
* Current utility bill (gas, water, electric are acceptable) (phone and cable bills are not acceptable)
* Signed lease agreement
* Settlement statement from home purchaseSigning In
Upon arriving at Barwell Road Elementary, please report directly to the office to sign in or check out your student. For security reasons please no not go to your child’s classroom without signing in at the office first.
If parents need to check students out of school early for an appointment, the student must be checked out in the office by 3:15. The reason for this procedure is student safety. In case of an emergency, parents may call the office at 919-661-5405. The voice mail will be checked several times between 3:00 and 5:00. A staff member will return your call if necessary. We discourage early check outs and late arrivals but understand that they may happen a few times each year.
The lobby is used for bus dismissal each day. All carpool students should be picked up in the carpool line. Remember that it takes more time at the beginning of the year for carpool dismissal as students, parents, and staff members learn the procedures. We need our parents to help us with this. We have a streamlined carpool dismissal process and you can help us maintain a safe and orderly dismissal by please adhering to the following guidelines:
-Only utilize the designated carpool lane in our side parking lot
-Carpool tags must be hung in the rear view mirror
-No Cell Phones once the line is moving
-Pull forward to the first available cone for loading and unloading children
-Only load and unload children in the designated loading zone–if you need to help your child buckle their seat belt please pull to an empty parking space to the left so the line can keep moving
-If there is a delay in getting your child out to your car we will ask you to pull up past Cone 1
Please be patient with us as our goal is to ensure each student is delivered to you safely.
Before volunteering at school, individuals must register or update their registry with WCPSS. This is an on-line registration process and may be completed at any WCPSS school or central services building. Learn more about Volunteering here.
These procedures are for the safety of all Barwell Road Elementary students. It takes our entire staff to monitor students during arrival and dismissal. Help us make our school as safe as possible by abiding by these procedures. Thank you.
Staff members may ask to see a picture ID before releasing students. It’s important to verify the identity of people we do not recognize than to release a student to someone we should not release him/her to. We cannot release students to people who are not listed on a student’s emergency contact card. Please keep this list updated.
