    Interims Go Home: Yet again, time is flying by.  Quarter 2 interim reports will be sent home this week.

     

    School Improvement Team Meeting: Our next SIT meeting is on Wednesday, 12/01/21 at 7:40 AM in the Media Center. 

     

    Substitutes:  We are frequently short of substitutes which requires Instructional Assistants to be pulled from their classes and other certified staff being pulled from their assigned tasks.  Have you ever thought about substituting?  Here’s the information if you’d like to help us in this area:  Substitutes Needed

    COVID Reminders: Our health guidance follows requirements from the NC Department of Health and Human Services and recommendations from Wake County Public Health. Students must stay home if they are sick. Someone experiencing any symptom of illness not related to an already documented medical condition must be sent home, even if they don’t have a COVID-19 diagnosis.     Greetings Powell Families,

     

    Congratulations to 3rd grade teacher, Ms. Allison Carey, our Powell Teacher of the Year.  Ms. Carey leads her classroom with such a kind and compassionate heart.  She builds very positive relationships with her students that continue for years to come.  Way to go, Ms. Carey!  We are fortunate to have you on our staff!

     

    Congratulations to our Data Manager, Mrs. Carolyn Bost, who was selected as a recipient of the WCPSS November Employee Excellence Award.  We are thankful for all you do each and every day for our staff, students, and families.

     

    Thanksgiving Holiday Vacation: No School for Staff or Students Wednesday, 11/24/21 through Friday, 11/26/21. I hope you enjoy this week as we pause for a time of Thanksgiving. We wish each of you well during your travels. 

     

    Marbles Playdate: It was a pleasure seeing 331 Powell family members at our Marbles Playdate. It was such a fun night. This spring, we will return to Marbles for our whole school field trip.

    Powell Family Playdate @ Marbles Kids Museum:  Our FREE Marbles Family Playdate is Thursday, 11/18/21, 5-8 PM -- we also encourage prospective Powell families to purchase a ticket and join us that evening to meet our families and learn more about our theme! Heavy snacks will be provided to go.

     

    Bagels with Brower: Join us this Friday, 11/19/21 at 10:00 AM for our next virtual Bagels with Brower.  This month will be Updates and a Q & A with Dr. Brower. Come have some time with the principal and get your questions answered. Watch for the link later this week.

     

    PTA Spirit Night - Venture Pizza: Come get some pizza at Venture Pizza ( 2320 Bale St, St #114, Raleigh, NC) to support our PTA - 33% Donation from sales. Stop by between 11:00 AM - 8:30 PM. You can Dine in, Take out, Delivery, or Pick up. Be sure to tell them you are supporting Powell PTA. Get more information and Commit to Eat here. Help us reach our goal of 100 people.

    Greetings Powell Families,

     

    School Psychology Awareness Week: This week is National School Psychology Week.  This year's theme is "Let’s Get in GEAR". The theme’s acronym provides a challenge to Grow both personally and professionally, to Engage in best practices, to Advocate for children’s access to mental health and learning supports, and to Rise with resilience and renewal despite the challenges of the past. We are grateful for our Powell school psychologist, Autumn Robinson “gets in gear” to support the behavioral health and academic needs of ALL students and staff at Powell.  Mrs. Robinson  serves as a team member on our School Improvement Team, Student Support Services PLT, Intervention Team, and Special Education PLT. She partners with our school community to provide data-based problem solving and intervention within a multi-tiered system of support, consultations to teachers and families, and evaluations of students for special education. Thank you, Mrs. Robinson, We Appreciate You!!

     

    Fall Picture Day Make Ups: This Wednesday, 11/10/21, is our Fall Picture Makeup Day.  If you were absent on our first picture day or were not happy with our picture, this is your chance for a retake.

     

    Veteran’s Day Holiday: This Thursday, 11/11/21, we will take time to honor our Veterans.  There is No School for Students or staff.  Be sure to find a way to Thank a Veteran.

     

    Day of Reflection:  No School for Students on Friday, 11/12/21.  Teachers have a Remote Workday and will not be available for meetings or appointments.

    Greetings Powell Families,

     

    Race for Education: WOOHOO!!!!!  We did it, WE MET OUR GOAL of $15,000!!  Our PTA has collected $15,760 and are promised $7,000 in matching funds!  That’s an amazing $22,760 in donations!     Magnet, Early College, & Year-Round Virtual Fair - The virtual Magnet, Early College and Crossroads FLEX Fair will be held Saturday, Nov. 6 from 9 a.m. to noon. Register now.

     

    Plastic Utensil Shortage: Wow! Our Powell Community is awesome! In just a few short days, you donated over 4,500 plastic utensils.  Like many of the shortages in our communities, WCPSS Child Nutrition Services (CNS) is having difficulty acquiring disposable plastic utensils.  Cisco, our regular supplier, is having a difficult time with availability.  If you wish to help with this shortage, we can accept plastic forks and spoons which are in sealed packaging and have not been open.  This does not mean that each piece must be individually wrapped. Rather, we can only accept boxes that have not been open.  We will gladly accept unopened bulk boxes, as well as smaller boxes from the grocery store.  If you wish to donate, please drop off at the main office. Thank you for your support. 

     

    Our Marbles Partnership:  We are excited our Powell Ingenuity Play Coaches program is starting up again, applications went home to 4th & 5th graders on Friday. Applications are due Tuesday, 10/26/21. There will be 25 Play Coaches selected to participate this year. Those selected for the program will get started by participating in training with Marbles staff @Powell on November 3rd & 4th, 3-5 PM. Learn more on our school website page.
