    • Parent Interest and Talent Survey: Powell Elementary has many programs and events that support our students' academic success.  Many parents and community partners are involved in making these events fun, engaging, and worthwhile.  If you are interested and willing to help in any way, we can suggest opportunities that match your time, talents, or resources.  Please take a few minutes and complete a PARENT INTEREST AND TALENT SURVEY for each individual parent and family member.  Please complete this survey as soon as possible. 
    • Early Release Day: This Friday, October 20th is our next Early Release Day.  Students will be dismissed at 1:15 PM. 
    • Early Release Day Teacher Luncheon: PTA will be hosting our 2nd Early Release Teacher Luncheon! This time they are putting together a fun Hot Dog bar for our terrific staff! Please sign up here to bring an item or help if you can! 
    • Box Tops Collection: It’s time for our first Box Tops collection.  Please send in your Box Tops by October 23rd. Check your Box Tops at home, there is a November 1st expiration date fast approaching.  Be on the lookout for some fun Box Top collection raffles coming soon.

    • PTA Reflections Arts Program: PTA Reflections is a nationally acclaimed student recognition program to encourage artistic creativity in the classroom and at home. Students of all grades and abilities may participate and explore the arts based on the 2017-2018 theme: Within Reach.  Submission due date is Tuesday, October 24th.
    • Science Night: Join us on Thursday, October 26th for Science Night.  Students and families will visit many hands on stations with lots of learning opportunities.  There will also be a live animal station.  A FREE Pizza dinner will be served from 5:30 - 6:15 PM.  Science stations will be open from 6:00 - 7:00 PM.  

    • Disability History and Awareness Month: October is Disability History and Awareness Month (DHAM).  DHAM is an opportunity for student's and citizens to learn about the many abilities that people with disabilities possess.  This year's theme is "PossABILITIES."  Our students and staff will be participating in lessons and activities to promote awareness.

    • National Bullying Prevention Month: Every October, schools across the county join STOMP Out Bullying in observing National Bullying Prevention Month. The goal is to encourage communities to work together to stop bullying and cyberbullying by increasing awareness of the prevalence and impact of bullying on all children of all ages. Our students and staff will be participating in lessons and activities to promote awareness.

    • CogAT Testing: Attention 3rd graders, CogAT testing will take play this Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.  The CogAT is a series of short, timed assessments that are used to help identify AIG students.

    • National Bullying Prevention Month: Every October, schools across the county join STOMP Out Bullying in observing National Bullying Prevention Month.The goal is to encourage communities to work together to stop bullying and cyberbullying by increasing awareness of the prevalence and impact of bullying on all children of all ages. Our students and staff will be participating in lessons and activities to promote awareness.

    • NC State Fair: Are you planning to attend the NC State Fair?  If so, buy your tickets at http://www.ncstatefair.org/2017/Visitor/Deals.htm to support our school.  Enter our school code 536.  We earn $2 back for every adult ticket and $1 for every child ticket purchased using our school code 536.  Share this information with your friends and family.  Anyone can use our school code 536 to support our school.

World Day of Bullying Prevention: The first Monday of each October is Blue Shirt Day® World Day of Bullying Prevention™ which signifies the importance of National Bullying Prevention Awareness Month each October.  All staff and students are encouraged to wear a BLUE SHIRT, Tomorrow, Monday, October 2nd.

    • Walk to School Day: Join us this Wednesday, October 4th to celebrate the benefits of walking to school during International Walk to School Day. Meet us in the Little Caesars parking lot 1100 Raleigh Blvd.  Registration begins at 7:45 AM.  Our walk will begin at 8:15 AM.  Parents, please join us in the walk.  Please sign the waiver and plan to walk with your child.   

    • Read to Achieve Parent Meeting: 3rd grade parents are invited to join us in the Media Center this Wednesday, October 4th at 8:45 AM to learn about the Read to Achieve requirements.

    • United Skates of America School Skate Party: Join us for a fun PTA spirit night at United Skates of America on Trawick Rd. on Thursday, October 5th from 6:00 - 8:30 PM.  Admission - $3.00, Skate Rentals - $3.50.  If we have 75 people attend and pay admission, Powell PTA will receive $1.50 for every paying person.  Invite your friends and family to come out for a fun night of skating.

    • Curriculum Night & PTA Meeting: Join us this Thursday, September 28th 5:30 PM - 7:30 PM to learn about grade level curriculum, as well as attend the PTA general meeting.  There are two sessions repeated for each grade level.

      First session: 5:30-6:00
      Transition to the multipurpose room 6:00-6:10
      PTA meeting:6:10-6:40
      Transition to second session 6:45-7:00
      Second session:7:00-7:30

    • Early Release Day: Friday, September 29th - Dismissal at 1:15 PM.  Please pick your students up promptly to allow our teachers to begin their professional developlment.

    Good Afternoon Powell Families,

    • Race for Education Labels: DUE this Wednesday, September 13th. Send in address labels for your family near and far.  Our Race for Education is our only PTA fundraiser for the year...nothing to sell all year long.  Mark your calendar, Race Day is Monday, October 30th.

    • Third Grade Beginning of Grade Test (BOG): Third grade students will be taking the BOG this week.  This year, Powell will be administering this test in an online format.  Students should come prepared for testing on both September 12th and 13th, but the test will only take one day for each student.

    • Parent AIG Nominations4th & 5th grade parents interested in having their child tested for AIG.  Please email Ms. Fox sfox@wcpss.net before Monday, September 25th.  More information can be found at http://www.wcpss.net/Page/92
