    Happy Mother’s Day to our Powell Elementary mothers and motherly figures. We appreciate you!  We hope you are having a wonderful day!

     

    Quarter 4 Interims Go Home: Quarter 4 Interims will be sent home tomorrow, 05/10/21.

     

    PTA Board Meeting: Join us this Tuesday, 05/11/21 at 7:00 PM for our next PTA Board Meeting. Be on the lookout for the Meet code being sent by PTA through Memberhub.

     

    Asynchronous Learning Day: This Thursday, 05/13/21, is our next Asynchronous Learning Day.  There will be no live instruction for students. 

     

    Virtual Book Fair: Our Virtual Book Fair begins this Friday, 05/14/21 - 05/21/21.  Every purchase from the Virtual Book Fair earns rewards for our school, so please stop by and support us.  Check out the Virtual Fair Flier!  Visit the Virtual Book Fair here!

     

    Bagels with Brower: Thank you for those who attended Bagels with Brower for our EOG presentation on Friday. If you couldn’t attend, watch the replay here.

     

    iStation Competition: The iStation competition is off to a great start. Check out this message from Mrs. Hart with our grade level class leaders and some great reading tips.

     

    Curbside Meals: This past Friday, May 7th, was the last day for Curbside Meals at Powell.  Families can visit alternate locations, including Poe and Hunter.  Thank you to our CNS staff, Ms. Lisa and Ms. Linda for providing meals to our families and commuting both in-person and curbside service.  We appreciate our School Lunch Heros.

     

    Virtual Talent Show: The window to submit Talent Show submissions closed on Friday, May 7th.  Thank you to everyone who submitted your talents. We look forward to a fabulous virtual talent show.

     

    Race for Education: It’s not too late to donate to our PTA Race for Education Fundraiser.  We have raised $8364 towards our goal of $12,000.  Can you help us meet our goal? The funds raised through this fundraiser help support and pay for many of the programs and opportunities the PTA provides to our students and staff. Every dollar helps! Seeking donations from your family, friends, colleagues, and other community members is greatly appreciated. Check out the email and social media templates PTA have created for you to use.

     

    EOG Testing Dates: Please mark your calendars for the following EOG dates - Reading: 05/27/21, Math: 06/01/21, 5th Grade Science: 06/03/21

     

    5th Grade Moving Up Ceremony Parade: We are excited to celebrate our 5th graders and send them off to Middle School. We will be hosting a Moving Up Ceremony Parade on Wednesday, 06/09/21 from 5:00 - 6:00 PM. Students and families will be receiving more detailed information this week.

    Greetings Powell Families,

     

    2021-2022 Virtual Academy Registration: The registration window for the WCPSS Virtual Academy closes today, Sunday, May 2 at 5 PM. Information regarding the Virtual Academy, along with a link to the registration form and pre-K virtual option and registration information, can be found here. The site also includes information regarding the level of commitment we seek, student and family responsibilities, course offerings and FAQs. Anyone wishing to register outside this window will not be guaranteed a seat in the Virtual Academy, due to staffing and scheduling issues.

     

    Teacher Appreciation Week: Help us celebrate our teachers and staff this week 05/03/21 - 05/07/21. The PTA has created fun themed days to help us celebrate. Students and families are encouraged to participate in the following activities:

    Monday - Create a piece of art for your teacher(s) to show how much you care!

    Tuesday - Bring your teacher a flower today! This could be store bought, garden fresh, or crafted!

    Wednesday - Bring your teacher a sweet treat today!

    Thursday - Dress up like a teacher today or wear your teacher's favorite colors!

    Friday - Bring your teacher(s) a token of your appreciation, be creative and have fun!

     

    For our virtual academy students, we encourage them to participate by taking photos of their creations/costumes and share within their Google classroom or teacher email. For sweet treat day, we suggest emailing a favorite memory from this year's Virtual Academy!

     

    National Child Nutrition Employee Week: The week 05/03/21 - 05/07/21, we celebrate our child nutrition employees, Ms. Lisa and Ms. Linda. We are thankful for the breakfasts and lunches they provided each day.

     

    Bike to School Day: We are excited to share that we are planning our annual Bike to School Day on Tuesday, May 4th. We will meet at the Food Lion on Raleigh Road beginning at 8:15 AM. We will follow all safety protocols, including social distancing and wearing a face covering.

     

    In-Person Learning Day: This Wednesday, 05/05/21, is an in-person learning day. 

     

    National School Nurse Day: On Thursday, 05/06/21, we celebrate our school nurse, Austin Hodge. We appreciate all that she does to help support our students, teachers, and families.

     

    Bagels with Brower: Join us this Friday, 05/07/21 at 10:00 AM, for our next virtual Bagels with Brower. The topic this month is End of Year Assessments and EOG information.

    Greetings Powell Families,

     

    It’s hard to believe that this is the last weekly update in April. The weeks seem to go faster and faster as we approach the end of the school year.

    Asynchronous Learning Day Changed: The Remote Learning Day previously planned for May 5th for traditional calendar students has been moved to May 13th. May 13th had previously been designated as a teacher workday, but that workday was moved to accommodate the district’s shift to Plan A. The remote learning day was moved to allow schools and families to retain activities originally scheduled for May 13th. We will have in-person learning on May 5th.

     

    School Improvement Team Meeting: Our next School Improvement Team meeting is this Wednesday, 04/28/21, at 2:00 PM.

    Greetings Powell Families,

     

    Administrative Assistant Appreciation Week: This week, 04/19/21 - 04/23/21, we celebrate our Administrative Assistants at Powell.  We are so appreciative of our Lead Secretary - Terri Frazer, Data Manager - Carolyn Bost, and Clerical Assistant - Alexia Kearney! These three are essential staff members at Powell who keep our office organized and efficient. If you speak to one of them this week, be sure to thank them for everything they do at Powell. Thank you for all that you do!

     

    iStation Competition: Have you heard about the exciting iStation competition for Quarter 4? To increase our student iStation usage, students will be competing in a friendly competition.  Check out this video from Mrs. Hart to learn more.

    Greetings Powell Families,

     

    Assistant Principal Appreciation Week: Last week was Assistant Principal Appreciation Week. We are so thankful for our Assistant Principal, Mrs. Melissa Hart.  Mrs. Hart is a key stakeholder in our school community. She wears many hats at Powell and is instrumental in the success of our school. Thank you, Mrs. Hart for all that you do each and every day for our staff, parents, and most importantly - our students. We appreciate you!

     

    School Library Media Coordinator Appreciation Week: This week, 04/12/21, we celebrate our School Library Media Coordinator, Mrs. Jessica Gill. Thank you to Mrs. Gill for knowing our students’ interest and keeping our circulation collection up to date and interesting. We appreciate your willingness to assist our teachers with their media needs. Thank you for all that you do!

     

    Bright Stars Touring Theater Virtual Assembly: We are excited to host Bright Stars Touring Theater virtually this week. While we can not gather for a full school assembly, each in-person and VA class will view the assembly together as a class.  

     

    Learning in Motion for EveryBODY - 1st Grade: This week, 04/12/21, our first graders will be participating in our next artist-in-residence program.

     

    PTA Board Meeting: Join us on Tuesday, 04/13/21, at 7:00 PM for our next PTA Board Meeting. PTA will send a link on MemberHub on Tuesday.
