School Messengers are text and email alerts sent to families to keep them informed about school events and activities. Information about the system and how to ensure your family stays informed is available at the link below. Phone messages to families will be reserved for urgent situations. 

June 20

Tomorrow, Wednesday June 21st is our first FWES family gardening day in the courtyard at 9:00am. Please join Mrs. Long to help maintain the garden beds- they've been enjoying the rain and need your help! We have tools, but families are welcome to bring their own along with family and friends. 
Visitors should come in to the school office to sign in upon arrival and then walk or drive around to the side of the school by the field/villas to access the courtyard (there is gravel for parking if you drive)- as custodial staff are cleaning floors, painting, etc. inside the building. Thank you!  
Gardening will occur almost every Wednesday morning at 9:00am- with a few exceptions. Check the FWES Homepage calendar on the left side for more information. 
Don't forget to read this summer and log your minutes at the Scholastic Summer Reading Challenge. As of today we are #134 with 96, 745 minutes read- Let's see if we can get to 100,000 by the end of June! 
June 8- All Families
We are still missing many school library books. Please search all around the house and in your cars tonight for any books that belong to Farmington Woods and be sure to return them tomorrow so that you do not have a library fine to start the next school year.
We will have many parents on our campus tomorrow to celebrate our 5th graders from first thing in the morning through their picnic. The parking lot and field will be used for parking, so if you cannot find a spot, WCPSS security can assist you in parking on the field at the back of the school.
Due to the 5th Grade Celebration Event scheduled for 10:00am, there will be a 30 minute delay in our lunch schedule again tomorrow.
Tomorrow is the last day of the 2016-17 school year. We are proud of all of our students and the growth they have demonstrated throughout the year in their academics along with the IB Learner Profile. 
Have a great summer! Read every day and log those minutes on the Scholastic Reading Challenge!  
Don't forget to pick up medications from the school office before June 24th.
Summer Office hours are M-F 8:30-11:45am and 1:00-4:00pm. There are times when maintenance and vacations will cause the office to be closed, so please call ahead before visiting.  
June 8- 5th Grade Only
We are excited to honor your 5th grader tomorrow with a special Celebration Ceremony at 10:00am in the Farmington Woods Cafeteria. Please review the information below as you make plans to join us:
  • Families and guests will be allowed to enter the cafeteria at 9:30am. Due to limited space, any celebration items such as balloons, flowers, etc. should not be brought to the celebration event, but shared with students following the event at the picnic. 
  • WCPSS Security will assist families with parking and direct cars to the back field of the school when the parking lots are full. 
    • Important Note! During our K-4 assemblies today, many of our guests chose to park innappropriately in our neighborhood and blocked driveways or street access. The Cary Police was called by our neighbors to issue traffic tickets to families parked illegally or creating a hazard. PLEASE park on our field (it's also easier to get your picnic from there) if at all possible, but if you park in the neighborhood be sure you are aware of the Town of Cary Parking Laws. We do not want you to end your time at FWES with a parking ticket! 
  • The ceremony will begin promptly at 10:00am and guests arriving after the ceremony begins will need to enter at the back of the cafeteria entrance to avoid any disruption to the program. 
  • The ceremony will last about 80 minutes, as each child will be called to the stage to be recognized. 
  • 5th Graders and their families are invited to bring a picnic to the courtyard following the ceremony to enjoy and get some final pictures and hugs. Students may be signed out by a parent at the end of the picnic with the child's teacher. Report cards may be distributed to students after 11:30am. 
  • Students should dress nicely for the event. All students must dress within WCPSS Dress code so sundresses, halters, spaghetti straps, etc. should not be worn unless covered by a sweater or with a shirt underneath. 
  • The PTA will have a photo area set up for families to capture the 5th Grade Celebration- so get your camera's ready and we'll share more at the conclusion of the ceremony.

EOG Scores were returned today.  3rd graders who retested will get score letters today. 3rd Graders who are eligible will also receive information about signing up for Summer Reading Camp today- that sign up is DUE BACK TOMORROW!!!!
We will work to get letters with scores of 4th and 5th graders out to families as soon as we can. If you do not get scores today, you will get them tomorrow.
Awards celebrations are scheduled for tomorrow, Thursday, June 8th-
K-1 at 9:30am and 2nd-4th at 10:30am. Parents of students receiving awards at the celebration have been notified by a note in the child's bookbag/folder. Seats at the back of the cafeteria are available for visitors. 
*Lunch will be delayed 30 minutes for all classes on Thursday, June 8th.  
Lost and Found- Lost and found items are on display in the front lobby- items not claimed by June 9th will be donated- come look through the items to find your lost coats, lunch boxes, water bottles, etc!
Library Books! We are still missing over 300 FWES library books- please search EVERYWHERE to see if you can find them and return them to school by Friday to avoid lost book fees. Thank you for your help!

Go for the Gold/Field Day Event is tomorrow!

·        Bring water bottle, hat, sunglasses and wear sunscreen- apply at home- may not have bottle at school.

·        Wear tennis shoes- no flip flops!

·        If you are  VIP- bring a plain t-shirt to tie dye if you wish

Yearbooks have arrived and are being delivered to students who pre-ordered. Any extra yearbooks for 17-18 will be available for $25 -first come, first served- beginning Friday, June 2nd- checks should be made out to FWES PTA. 

3rd Grade EOG scores are going home today. Students who did not score a 3, 4 or 5 on the Reading will be taking a retest on Monday, June 5th. Scores from the retest will go home June 7t

Don't forget our last Walk to School Day is tomorrow- 8:30am at Kildaire Plaza!

End of Grade Testing continues tomorrow (Tuesday, May 30th) for 3rd-5th graders- Math Test from 9:20am-1:15pm. 
  • 3rd-5th graders need to arrive on time- late arrivals will not be able to begin testing and will have to participate in make up testing
  • free breakfast for all 3rd-5th graders will be available in the cafeteria- please arrive by 9am to participate
  • 3rd-5th graders may have a water bottle under their seats for use during testing breaks and a book to read if they finish early- the regular testing window is 180 minutes, however, students may take up to 240 minutes to complete testing. Students not finished after 180 minutes will be given a supervised lunch break and then be allowed to continue working for up to 240 minutes. 
No Visitors for Lunch on any EOG test day- K-2 students will be eating in the classrooms and 3rd-5th will eat when all testing is completed
5th Graders will have their End of Grade Science Test on Wednesday, May 31st from 9:20am- 1:15pm.

We appreciate all of our wonderful volunteers and have planned an event tomorrow morning at 9am in the FWES Courtyard to recognize you for all you do to support our school. 
We are planning a Celebration of our school's recognition as a Magnet School of Excellence on Thursday morning, May 11th and ask that students where FWES shirts or blue/yellow to help us celebrate school spirit (we are hopeful the weather will cooperate).
There is no school on Friday, May 12th- it is a teacher workday. Enjoy the long weekend!
Note: The school messenger system is being updated by WCPSS and phone calls from the school are being phased out. Information will be delivered via text and email, so please make sure that current cell phone and email addresses are on file at the school. If you have had any changes since the start of the year, please make sure you update the office information to keep getting school information.
With this new system, multiple family members can receive these notifications, so it is important to have all phone numbers on file and updated to keep everyone informed.
On May 22nd, a test message will be sent and a phone reminder, so you will know if you did not get the test message that you need to updated school contact information:)

Thank you for celebrating Teacher Appreciation Week at Farmington Woods! Our staff are awesome and your efforts are also appreciated for making them feel so special this week. Friday is a free choice day where you can highlight your appreciation in any way you choose!
Friday, May 5th is Walk to School Day- Meet Mr. Eller at 8:30am at Kildaire Plaza for a great start to your day- but you may need an umbrella, we'll see!  
April 17
Changes are coming this spring to the School Messenger system across the Wake County Public School System. The voice delivered messages are being phased out and families will receive school messenger information via text and email. With this change on its way, please make sure you keep the school informed of the most updated phone #s and email addresses so you can continue to get important school information.  
More information should be available in the next few weeks and it will be shared with families.

Please remember to be a good neighbor when you park in the neighborhood around FWES. Neighbors are concerned about cars that are parking in their grass and blocking their mailboxes. Please follow courtesy and Cary Parking laws when parking on the streets near FWES.  

January 17

Reminder about ticket orders for Family Evening Concert on Thursday, January 19th. Ticket orders at the pre-concert price of $4 per ticket are due by Tuesday, January 17th. Tickets will also be available at the door the night of the concert for $5 each. It is a great evening for the whole family with a fantastic acapella group!

Don’t forget to return your permission slip to the Bowling Field Trip for Go for the Gold celebration for the 1st semester. While the trips are in February- remember that WCPSS requires that all permission slips must be returned at least 30 days prior to the trip- so we need your permission slip by next Wednesday, January 18th.

Early Release is Friday, January 20th at 1:15pm. 

January 6
With the threat of winter weather this weekend, we are sending two important documents home with your child today and want you to look for them in the back pack.
1- Family Evening Concert is January 19th and pre-order tickets are due by January 17th. Please return your order form or order through the link on the form in the Monday folder, by the 17th to get the $4 price. Tickets will be available the night of the event for $5 each. We are looking forward to an acapella performance from Transit Vocal Band, a showcase of  Ringers and Singers work and a general membership PTA meeting. 
2- Go for the Gold Bowling Field Trip Permission slip- due by January 18th due to the WCPSS policy of having permission slips 30 days prior to the trip. Students who have earned 120 tickets by the end of the semester will be going bowling, but all others will also celebrate with special events planned on campus. We must have a permission slip and your child's shoe size for your child to attend by January 18th. Thank you for returning it as soon as possible to your child's teacher!
Please monitor the local news media for information on any school schedule changes if the winter weather hangs around through next week.

A few reminders for families:
  • Tomorrow, January 5th is Kindergarten Registration for the 2017-18 school year. We will register in our lobby from 9:30am-3:00pm tomorrow and after that from 10:00am-12:00noon daily. Magnet families must register rising kindergartners at their base school and apply for a magnet seat in order for the sibling to attend FWES as a magnet student.  
  • Friday, January 6th is January Walk to School Day. Bundle up and meet Mr. Eller at Kildaire Plaza to get your blood pumping and oxygen flowing for learning!
  • Please review the Winter Weather information sent home in Monday Folders on the website in the event there is any weather this weekend that would impact the school schedule.  
November 28
We hope your family had a wonderful break. We are so very Thankful for ALL of you as part of our school community!
A few reminders and announcements:
  • 2nd Grade is collecting school supplies to help Knuckles Elementary that was flooded in Lumberton, NC. They are very short of the donations they need to prepare a school supply kit for each of the students in the school-so please see the flyer in today's Monday folder and send in items tomorrow to help!
  • Friday of this week, December 2nd is an Early Release- students will be dismissed at 1:15pm.
  • Also today, around noon, the fire alarm sounded at school. Students evacuated safely and the fire department responded quickly. The fire fighters investigated and determined the alarm was caused by a faulty sensor. Students returned to class and the schedule was adjusted to allow for ample lunch time. Than you to all our staff and students for demonstrating the IB attitude of cooperation! 
  • Looking ahead to next week- please be aware that our school will be in the process of having our server upgraded. It will mean that staff may have limited access to internet throughout the week and we are planning for no internet from Tuesday around lunch through Thursday around lunch. Please make sure any information you need to share with school staff is done through handwritten notes, as email will not be available.
November 14

Teachers are currently scheduling conferences to review current student progress with families. Please make sure you respond to your child’s teacher’s request so you can partner with us for your child’s growth and success.

We are proud to be recognizing the Veteran’s in our FWES families in honor of Veteran’s Day on Friday, November 11th. If you have a Veteran in your family- please review the information in our Monday Folder page on the website for how to send in photos and information about your Veteran.

The PTA sponsored Book Fair is in the Inquiry center this week. Students will have a chance to get a preview of the books and if you choose to let your child purchase books, they will be able to shop later in the week during the school day. Family night at the Book fair will be on Thursday night when the Book Fair will be open from 5pm until 8:00pm for family shopping.

November 14 (1st grade only)

1st Graders are learning about the community through a walking field trip tomorrow and Wednesday. Tuesday Ms. Byrd, Mrs. Williams and Ms. Pinder’s classes will be taking the walking trip. Wednesday will be Mrs. Long, Mrs. Edwards and Ms. White’s classes. Please make sure your child is dressed appropriately for a walking field trip.


Friday, November 4th

5th grade families- Tomorrow is the WCPSS Magnet Fair from 9-12 at Southeast Raleigh High School. You can explore your middle school magnet options and stop by to see us at the Farmington Woods booth in the Elementary section.

Monday, November 7th is Make Up Picture Day- if your child missed our fall pictures or you would like a retake- we will take care of that on Monday. Information about ordering pictures is available on the school website and in the main office. Say Cheese!

Please make sure you have noted on your calendar that Tuesday, November 8th is a 2 hour delay due to the General Election. Students may enter the school at 10:45am and instruction will begin at 11:15am. There will be no breakfast served. Lunch will be eaten in the classrooms, so no visitors will be allowed for lunch. Before and after school programs will check in and out from Room 609- families who participate in those programs should park in the bus loop and use the back sidewalk to get to room 609 on Tuesday. 

Wednesday, November 2nd

Tomorrow is our Global Fun Run!!! Thanks so much to our PTA for their hard work organizing this event- we look forward to a great day! Students should all wear running shoes tomorrow and be dressed to walk or run for the full 25-30 minutes of the run. Parents are invited to watch the run on the field, but are asked not to visit classroom prior to the run or after the run- as classroom schedules will remain the same. K and 4th will run at 9:50am; 2nd and 3rd will run at 10:40 and 1st and 5th will run at 11:30.

If the weather is not cooperating, the rain date is Friday, November 4th.

Friday is also our November Walk to School Day- meet Mr. Eller and Friends at Kildaire Plaza at 8:30am to continue staying active!

Happy Monday! The PTA is very excited about the responses and sponsorships that have been turned in to support our students and our school. Keep up the great work- only a few more days until the Fun Run on Thursday!

Be sure to check your teacher’s newsletter information about what your class will be wearing in the run- but definitely plan for wearing your running shoes on Thursday!

PTA will help you with dinner tonight- visit them at the Chick Fil A at Crossroads between 5-8pm for a Farmington Woods Spirit Night!

Don’t forget to continue to find sponsors for your Fun Run participation next week- the raffle drawings are continuing with some great prizes! Remember the top earner for the event will get to be the Principal for most of the day!

Monday, October 31st was supposed to be a Teacher Workday but is the make up day for October 10th and there is a regular school day planned for Monday.

Monday, October 24th

We got excited today about the FWES Fun Run with an exciting Pep Rally! Please check folders for important information from the PTA about the Fun Run and how your child and your family can participate in a fund raiser where all funds go directly to the FWES PTA! .

There will be daily drawings for prizes from local sponsors for those students who have gotten sponsors for their run- the drawings start tomorrow! The money for the sponsorship must accompany paper sponsor forms to be entered into the raffle. Remember this year it is not based on lap count but a flat sponsorship to support the student in running/walking for the whole 25 minute event.

2nd Graders will be taking a trip to the IMAX on Wednesday

5th graders will go to the IMAX on Thursday and the rest of our 1st grades will be visiting the Rock Quarry (White, Pinder, Edwards)

We hope you will join us on Thursday for FWES Spirit Night at Chick Fil A at Crossroads from 5-8pm!

Tuesday, October 18th

Two more field trips are planned this week for both Kindergarten and 1st grade on Thursday. Kindergartens go to Ganyard Farm and 1st graders will be visiting Wake Stone Quarry. Due to these two field trips, all classes will be eating lunch in their classrooms- so we will not be allowed to have visitors for lunch on Thursday.

Please make sure your calendar is marked that Friday, October 21st is an Early Release for students who will be dismissed at 1:15pm. Our specialists will be collaborating with our 5th graders throughout the day on Friday. 

Wednesday, October 12

Looking forward to our 1st Cultural Arts Performance tomorrow thanks to the PTA welcoming Doug Berky tomorrow morning to our cafeteria- he will share his mask and theater creativity with our students. K-2 at 9:25 and 3-5 at 10:30. Due to the performance- all lunch times will be 25 minutes later than usual.

Our PTA Board of Directors will be meeting on Friday morning at 7:45 in the Inquiry Center if you are interested in getting involved.

4th graders are looking forward to a special field trip on Friday to the Raleigh International Festival as they have been invited to witness a naturalization ceremony where over 300 people will be sworn in as American Citizens- and explore the festival. 4th graders learn all about how people have immigrated to North Carolina and how many cultures are represented in our state, so the ability to participate is a wonderful learning opportunity for our students’ learning. 4th graders must dress appropriately for this ceremony so no gym wear or FWES t-shirts on this trip so you can dress respectful for the ceremony and represent FWES well. 

Monday, September 26
Interim reports are going home with students today as we are at the mid-point of the 1st quarter. This report will let you know how your child is progressing with the standards that are being taught and assessed for the 1st quarter. 
Club notifications are also going home today. As noted, the club selection process is a true lottery, so only those students whose applications were drawn were placed in a club. Those applications not drawn in the lottery process are kept for filling any openings that may arise during the school year in clubs. We are thankful for our staff who volunteer their time for these extra opportunities for students! 
Don't forget that Friday is an Early Release and students will be dismissed at 1:15pm.  
From PTA President, Anita Richburg: The PTA would like to thank all parents who attended the general meeting during curriculum night last week! Your input during the vote was greatly appreciated and helps the PTA to continue to work together with the school to ensure the staff and students have educational support. As you know, this year the PTA is starting our budget with a smaller amount of funds than we are used to.  This is due to having over a $10,000 surplus that we put towards technology and the new blacktop for this year. Our lowered budget stems from the fact that we are not using Boosterthon and are planning our own fun run with unexpected results of its success.As we move forward this year, we have some amazing fundraisers planned and are confident that we will raise enough money to cover the costs listed in the budget and plan to end with an overage of funding. We welcome parent volunteers to help with fundraising and parent input at our board meetings! Copies of the budget can be found on our PTA website as well as meeting dates of our board and general meetings. Thank you again for your support of the PTA! Looking forward to an EXCELLENT year at FWES!
Thursday, September 22

Also a few back to school reminders for all families:

·         Thank you for your cooperation with our dismissal procedures. They are designed to maintain the safety of all of our students at the end of the day. Please remember that last minute walk in changes of transportation should be only in emergency situations and not re-occurring and any other changes must be given to the teacher with a written note. We cannot take a child or parent verbal notice but it must be in writing. Note- Email is not a timely tool for sharing that information as there are days when teachers cannot check email until after dismissal- a note to the teacher in the morning with arrival is what is needed.

·         If you have a carpooler- we are very pleased with how students are following our procedures and processes. If your child has been struggling at carpool, please help you child learn his/her carpool number as it will help speed up the process as we move forward. In the meantime, we are dismissing over 300 students each afternoon through carpool in about 30 minutes- that’s about 6 seconds per student- a pretty good rate for the first month of school!

·         If you are a walker family- please remember that the streets and neighbor’s yards surrounding the school should not be used for parking. Cars should NEVER park on Hampton Valley Road during dismissal as the regular and carpool traffic cannot flow appropriately. Please don’t forget that the church at the corner of Seabrook and Cary Parkway will allow its parking lot to be used during arrival and dismissal for easy and safe in and out parking.

·         Healthy Students- please make a note that we are working to comply with healthy guidelines for all students and reduce students sugar intake during the school day. All cafeteria items comply with federal guidelines and families are encouraged to review and send healthy snacks if students need a snack during the school day. As we enjoy celebrating students’ birthdays- please try to select a low sugar alternative if you would like your child to celebrate at school- such as the birthday book in the inquiry center option, pencils for classmates, PE equipment for the classroom supply or just a small bite-sized sweet. Large cupcakes, cakes or cookies are not aligned with the work of our parents, students and teaching staff on our healthy students leadership team. Thank you for helping us to support our students’ healthy brains and healthy bodies!

Wednesday, September 21

Tomorrow, all 2nd-5th grade club applications are due by 3:30pm to your child’s teacher. The club lottery will take place prior to the school day on Friday, September 23rd so no late applications will be accepted. Notification will be sent home with students on Monday, September 26th

Go Play Save and Spiritwear orders were due today, but can be completed tomorrow if you missed today’s deadline- the PTA still has more than 175 Go Play Save books that have not yet been returned- please return the book or $30 for the book on Thursday. 
Monday, September 19

Reminder that PTA spirit wear and Go Play Save orders are all due to the PTA mailbox by Wednesday, September 21st. Please return all items to the blue PTA mailbox in the school lobby. Information about Club opportunities for the current school year is going home with students today. Applications for the club lottery are due by 3:30pm on Thursday.  

Tuesday, September 13

Reminder to all families that we want to see you on Thursday night at our Curriculum Night Event. K-2 will be from 5:30-6:30pm and 3-5 will be from 6:30-7:30pm. This event will give you information on the curriculum expectations for your child’s grade level and a chance to visit the classroom and learn more directly from your child’s teacher. Specialists and special areas teachers will also be available throughout the evening in room on the Green and Red Hallways. Signs will be posted to direct you.  

Monday, September 12 (3rd grade only)

Hello 3rd grade families- All 3rd graders in the state of NC participate in the Beginning of Grade test of reading standards at the start of the school year. This test aligns with the Read to Achieve state law that requires all 3rd graders to be reading on grade level by the end of 3rd grade as an initial assessment of students who may be at risk of not passing the End of Grade Reading test in the Spring, 2017.

3rd graders at Farmington Woods will take the Beginning of Grade Test on Wednesday, September 14th. The test is from 9:30am-1:00pm- so students should make sure they arrive on time and they will not be allowed to leave a testing setting until the conclusion of the 180 minute test. Please make sure your child is well rested and has a good breakfast to best prepare them for this lengthy test. Students who arrive after 9:20am will not be allowed to enter the testing settings and will have to make up the test on another school day. Thank you for making sure your 3rd grader is on time to school and ready for this assessment.  

Thursday, September 8

A reminder that tomorrow is an Early Release for all students. School will be dismissed at 1:15pm. Please make sure that you have made the appropriate dismissal plans for your child based on this dismissal time.

Make a note on your calendar that next Thursday, September 15th is Curriculum Night at Farmington Woods. K-2 grade levels will offer information to parents from 5:30-6:30pm and 3-5 will offer information to parents from 6:30-7:30. Our specialists and special areas teachers will also be available to share information throughout the evening. Monday, September 5

Happy Labor Day! What a great 1st week of school we had with our students! We were pleased with our daily dismissal and as the bus routes become more familiar to drivers and students; and students learn their new carpool numbers we expect both dismissal processes to continue to improve. We will welcome all of our new kindergarten students tomorrow and can’t wait to have them- however, it will be that we can expect a few more delays at dismissal as they learn the procedures, bus stops, carpool #s, etc. We thank you for your patience and support as we help our youngest IB learners settle in-

A few reminders moving through the week-

Friday, September 9th is an Early Release- Students will be dismissed at 1:15pm- please make sure you have made arrangements for your student based on this time change. Remember that any changes to their usual transportation must be made in writing to the classroom teacher on Friday morning.

2nd-5th graders who have not yet paid $3 for their agenda should send in $3 for the PTA no later than Friday of this week. The $3 can be put in an envelope with the child’s name and teacher on the outside and placed in the PTA mailbox.

This week is also the last week to join the PTA and get a free ticket to the World Dance in March. All families are encouraged to have a voice in our school through membership in the PTA. There will be a membership link in the electronic folders that go out tomorrow.

Go Play Save PTA fund raising books were sent home with 1st-5th last week and will go home with K this week. If you are interested in keeping the book- send your $30 back to school for the PTA. If you do not want the book, it will need to be returned to school. 

Sunday, August 28

It is almost that time!!! The start of the 2016-17 school year! We can’t wait to see you all tomorrow- do you have your supplies ready? Lunch money or lunch box? Your back to school outfit chosen? It is such an exciting day and your teacher can’t wait to see you!

Just a few reminders to families about the 1st day of school:

  • Doors will not open until 8:45am

  • Those driving to walk in with students on Day 1 should use the church parking lot at Seabrook/Cary Parkway as there is not enough parking on campus for typical 1st day visitors- Parents who walk in should exit the building no later than 9:15am

  • Afternoon dismissal will be a slow and careful process the first weeks of school to insure the safety of all students- bus riders, walkers, and carpool. If you are planning to meet your child as a “walker” but you drive your vehicle- please once again use the church parking lot and walk down to the school. Your patience and understanding is essential to our work to maintain the safety of ALL students. Please expect delays and plan on waiting and being patient.


Wednesday, August 24


Don’t forget 1st-5th grade classroom assignments will be posted tomorrow on Thursday at 4:30pm at the front of the school. You can find out your teacher’s name and room number from these assignments. Make sure you are planning to join us on Friday morning between 8:30-11:00am for our Open House event to meet the teacher and get lots accomplished to start the year off smoothly for your child. New this year, families of 2nd-5th Graders will need to bring $3 to pay for your child’s agenda- please bring cash, check or a credit/debit card to the Agenda table so that your child will have this important organizational tool to use throughout the year. This agenda also contains your copy of the Farmington Woods Parent Handbook. Tomorrow is an exciting day for our students and families and our school staff look forward to welcoming you!

Hi Kindergarten Parents- just a quick reminder about the Kindergarten Parent Orientation sessions being offered tomorrow at 8:45am and 10:30am in the school gym. To most easily access these sessions, you will want to drive around to the back of the school and park on our field. Don’t forget to review the many other activities you can complete while you are on our campus that will get your child ready to start the year- such as getting a carpool tag, bus information, join the PTA, lunch account, etc. We look forward to seeing you!

Make sure you have your calendar marked for our Open House Event on Friday morning from 8:30-11:00am. Class rosters for 1st-5th graders will be posted on Thursday afternoon at 4:30pm for your review and Friday morning is the time to meet your teacher and take care of all the other starting the year items on our campus. It is always an exciting event and we can’t wait to see you there!

(Kindergarten Only) Hi Kindergarten Parents- Please make sure you are planning to join us on Friday for at least one of the Kindergarten Parent Orientation sessions provided by our kindergarten team. The sessions are at 8:45am or 10:30am in the school gym on the back side of the campus. After your session or prior to attending, you should plan to visit the other various activities on our campus to get things ready for your child to start school- get a carpool tag, put $ on his/her lunch account, register to be a volunteer, join the PTA, etc. Our Open House event is very exciting and eventful but we highly recommend that our kindergarten students do not attend with their parent. The kindergarten classrooms will not be open- due to the teachers being in the orientation session and the building can be very overwhelming with our 700+ 1st -5th graders and their families moving around. We want to provide a slow, easy transition as they come on their staggered entry day. Following the staggered entry process, we look forward to welcoming you and your child to the campus on Friday, September 2 between 1:00-2:00pm for the Kindergarten Open House to meet your child’s teacher and see the classroom.


Thursday, August 11

Before or After School Applications will begin being accepted on Monday, August 15th at 8:30am. Forms are available on the school website or a packet may be picked up at the school tomorrow so you can fill it out this weekend. To be enrolled in the program, the application must contain all of the required forms along with the $15 registration fee. Payment for the first month of services is due on the 1st day of School August 29th, but we encourage families to consider paying it when registering as the beginning of the school year can be a busy time and it can help avoid any late charges.

We are so excited to welcome our teachers back to school next Friday to start the 2016-17 school year. The school will be closed next Friday, August 19th for our Back to School Retreat and meeting which will take place in another location. The office will reopen on Monday, August 22 at 8:30am.

Happy Summer FWES Families!
Important Summer Reminders and Updates:
1) Bus Registration for 2016-17 for new students and new bus riders must be completed by Monday, July 25th! There is a link on the homepage to register your student. Only students registered by July 25th will be able to ride the bus starting on the 1st day of school. 
2) Be sure to Read every day for our Scholastic Summer Reading Challenge and log your minutes! We are in the top 100 schools in the nation and want to stay there- along with wanting none of our students to experience the summer slide as readers this summer. Maintaining your reading skills requires daily practice.
3)  Keep collecting plastic screw on bottle caps for a campus art project this year! Tops from water bottles, laundry detergent, sports drinks, etc. All sizes and colors are needed. 
4) Monday nights are garden nights from 6-7pm- check our Twitter feed on the website or follow us on Twitter to learn more and help us with our community garden, where we harvest to give back to our community.
5) Kindergarten families should expect a letter with starting kindergarten information early next week and all families will receive back to school information mailing the 1st week in August.
