Academically/Intellectually Gifted Program Fall Nomination Process

The 2016-17 school year AIG fall nomination window is now open and will close September 23rd at 5pm. If your child was identified as AIG at any Wake County Public School, the records have been forwarded to Fuquay Varina MS and no nomination is necessary. The established AIG service will remain in effect.

If your child was identified as gifted in a different school district, you may nominate your child for WCPSS AIG identification.

The Nomination Window represents the time that students may be nominated for the AIG Program. Students may nominate themselves or be nominated by a parent, guardian, or teacher. Nomination does not guarantee that a student will be tested to qualify for the AIG Program. However, all nominated student records are reviewed by a committee to determine whether or not the student should be referred for consideration and/or testing.

If you would like to nominate your son/daughter, please send an email to Shannon Oakes at soakes@wcpss.net.

    Single Subject Acceleration Information

Single Subject Acceleration (SSA) is the practice of assigning a student to a higher-grade level than is typical, given the student's age, for the purpose of providing access to appropriately challenging learning opportunities.  SSA is an accelerative practice that allows students to show mastery of the content of a course without having taken the course. The deadline to nominate a student is 5/4/2016. Please go to wakeacceleration.weebly.com to nominate your child or contact Shannon Oakes for more information at

    soakes@wcpss.net.

    Credit by Demonstrated Mastery
Starting in 2015, students will be able to earn credit for a course without spending a set number of hours taking the course in a classroom. Under the state’s new Credit by Demonstrated Mastery (CDM) option, uniquely qualified students may “test out” or bypass a course if they have already mastered the content.
