Teacher Input Session will be at 2:30PM on Tuesday, August 23 in the auditorium.

    FVMS Parents and Guardians

Schedules will not be mailed home this school year.  Parents and students may obtain their schedule 3 different ways: 1) PowerSchool beginning August 25, 2) Open House, or 3) The first day of school in homeroom.  While many students will be anxious to see their schedule, we will not be able to provide schedules on Friday, August 26 for those who cannot attend Open House.

Open House will be Thursday, August 25 from 4:00-6:00. There will not be a formal opening session. Parents and students can walk the campus any time between 4:00 and 6:00. Parents and students should report to their grade level building to locate a listing of students' names and homeroom teachers posted on the hallway walls.  Homeroom teachers will distribute schedules.  We will have staff members and student volunteers directing parents to grade level buildings.  Please note this is a great time to walk the campus so students can become familiar with their schedule.  We will not have time to provide individual conferences, so please limit the information shared to staff members.  As the school year progress and you need a conference, please contact teachers directly. Open House will end promptly at 6:00PM.

Additional notes about Open House night:
Student Services/Guidance will be available in the gym/auditorium lobby for general questions, homeroom listings, and PowerSchool registration.  We encourage PTSA Membership.  Representatives will be available to register membership with cash or card ($10 parent/guardian and $5 student).  Our Athletic sports gear will be available for purchase near the gym area.

Upon arriving on campus the first day of school, our 6th grade students will report to the auditorium and our 7th/8th grade students report to the gym until released at 8:10AM.  Students who eat breakfast at school may report to the cafeteria until 8:10AM.  All students will then report to homeroom classes first.  A listing of homeroom classes will be posted in grade level buildings and staff will be available to direct students.

If you have moved during the summer and have not notified student services, please contact our office at 919-557-2731.
Enjoy the remaining days of summer break, and we look forward to seeing you on August 25.

    Single Subject Acceleration Information

Single Subject Acceleration (SSA) is the practice of assigning a student to a higher-grade level than is typical, given the student's age, for the purpose of providing access to appropriately challenging learning opportunities.  SSA is an accelerative practice that allows students to show mastery of the content of a course without having taken the course. The deadline to nominate a student is 5/4/2016. Please go to wakeacceleration.weebly.com to nominate your child or contact Shannon Oakes for more information at

    soakes@wcpss.net.

    Credit by Demonstrated Mastery
Starting in 2015, students will be able to earn credit for a course without spending a set number of hours taking the course in a classroom. Under the state’s new Credit by Demonstrated Mastery (CDM) option, uniquely qualified students may “test out” or bypass a course if they have already mastered the content.
