Opportunities for Acceleration/Single Subject Acceleration (SSA)
Single Subject Acceleration (SSA) in the Wake County Public School System (WCPSS) is a practice through which students meeting qualifying criteria in grades K‐7 can take advanced academic content in mathematics or English/Language Arts (ELA) for the purpose of providing access to appropriately challenging learning opportunities. SSA is an accelerative practice that allows students to show mastery of content of an elementary or middle school course without having taken the course. During the specified spring nomination window, parents can nominate his/her child to skip a grade level of content in either Language Arts OR Mathematics. For more information about SSA and other accelerative practices, please view the following link that includes upcoming parent information sessions: PlacementAccelerationRegionalMeetings2017. The SSA contact liaison for FVMS is Shannon Oakes at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Take-Your-Child-To-Work Day will be observed during the entire month of February and all grade levels can participate. Participation is voluntary so school will proceed as usual on the day of the event.
In order to participate, students must enroll in our Lunch and Learn program. After enrolling in Lunch and Learn, both student and a parent must complete and submit the attached forms to Mr. Jenkins. Prior approval is mandatory. A parent information letter is also attached.
If you are unable to print these documents from home, ask your child to come by the computer lab in room 4117 before or after school. Printers and computers will be available. Absences will be excused if permission forms are submitted in advance of the job shadow event.
