Mrs. Burroughs' Weekly Message

August 3, 2015

Trailblazer Family,

This is Ms. Burroughs the Principal of Banks Road. I can hardly believe a full month has passed since my start date.  I continue to be humbled, proud, and so incredibly thankful to be working with such a wonderful community.

The events for the week of August 3rd are as follows:

·         Monday the 3rd is the first day of school for Kindergarten Track 4

·         Monday the 3rd – Thursday the 6th is Read to Achieve Week Four for Track 3

·         Wednesday the 5th are Identa-kid pictures for Track 4

Looking Ahead:

·         Wednesday the 12th is BOG for Track 4

·         Thursday August the 13th is Open House for Tracks 1 and 3 from 5:00 – 6:00 and Tracks 2 and 4 from 6:30 – 7:30.  Representatives from PTA, Transportation, Child Nutrition Services, the YMCA, Special Education, AG, and Intervention will be present

·         Friday the 14th is Track 4 Track-out

·         Friday the 14th is an Early Release Day with the student day ending at 12:45

We are currently running three cones instead of five in afternoon carpool.  The decision was made by the carpool team in order to provide more supervision and support in the carpool room for our very active Kindergarten and 1st grade students.  It is my hope that we may be able to increase to 4 or 5 cones once things settle down and the students are more accustomed to the procedures and expectations.  Safety always comes first during the school day and carpool is no exception. I appreciated your patience and understanding during this time.

Have a wonderful and safe weekend,

July 27, 2015

Trailblazer Family,

I can hardly believe three weeks have passed – time flies when good learning is happening! This week we said goodbye to Track 3 for their Track Out and we welcome Track 4 on Monday.

The events for the week of July 27th are as follows:

·         Monday the 27th is the first day for Track 4

·         Monday the 27th Friday the 31st is Track 3 Read to Achieve Camp Week One

·         Monday the 27th Friday the 31st is Track 4 staggered entry for Kindergarten

·         Thursday the 30th and Friday the 31st is Pre-K staggered entry

·         Thursday the 30th is T1 and T2 School Pictures

·         Friday the 31st is Track 4 Kindergarten meet the teacher from 4:30 6:00

Open House will be Thursday August the 13th for Tracks 1 and 3 from 5:00 – 6:00 and Tracks 2 and 4 from 6:30 – 7:30. Representatives from PTA, Transportation, Child Nutrition Services, the YMCA, Special Education, AG, and Intervention will be present.

We are making some minor adjustments to after-noon carpool in order to provide better supervision for all students. We are currently running three cones instead of five. This has not impacted times by more than a few minutes. Please remember students must load on the curb. If you need to take additional time to assist your child in a booster or car seat once your child is loaded, please pull into an open parking spot or all the way up on the curb so that traffic may continue to flow.

This past week I asked Human Resources for some clarity on the WCPSS volunteer process and I received the requested information last Friday. Parents are permitted to eat lunch without Volunteer clearance, if they eat with only their child in the designated area in the lunch room.

A Special Thank You to the PTA for the Back to School Blast on Wednesday night! It was a well attended event. In case you were not aware, Banks Road has a wonderful PTA that supports the students and families by coordinating events throughout the year. If you would like to join the PTA and/or volunteer please visit the school website and look for the PTA link. The calendar of events for the year will be published soon.

Have a wonderful and safe weekend,
