Single Subject Acceleration

Single Subject Acceleration (SSA) is the practice of assigning a student to a higher-grade level than is typical, given the student's age, for the purpose of providing access to appropriately challenging learning opportunities.  SSA is an accelerative practice that allows students to show mastery of the content of a course without having taken the course. Please see the chart below for the SSA nomination and testing windows.  More information and the parent nomination form can be found at  Please email Mandy Hochbrueckner at if you have any questions regarding SSA.

2017-18 Enrollment Proposal

On Oct. 4, the Wake County Board of Education received Draft 2 of the Enrollment Proposal for the 2017-18 school year.
Since Draft 1 was released in September, staff members have gathered parent feedback via an online forum and at five Board Advisory Council meetings held throughout the district.

Draft 2 will lead to another round of public feedback.

A new discussion thread will be launched online. We will also host a public information session at Alston Ridge Elementary on Oct. 11. Both meetings will start at 6:30 p.m.

Next Steps:  After receiving feedback on Draft 2, staff could make further revisions. They then will submit Draft 3, the final draft, to the board in November.  Any additional changes will be made by board members. A public hearing will be held in November or December.

Final approval is expected in November or December. Learn more.

Could I be affected?  The best way to check: Go to our base locator tool and type in your address. You can also find information about proposed base attendance area changes and proposed calendar option changes in the above-left tabs.
