Board approves resolution to recognize the 50th anniversary of the merger that created WCPSS 

The Board of Education has approved a resolution commemorating the 50th anniversary of the merger of the Raleigh City Schools and Wake County Schools, which officially formed the Wake County Public School System on July 1, 1976. The resolution recognizes the vision and leadership that brought the two districts together, honors the generations of students, educators, employees, families and community partners who have shaped our district, and celebrates the district's growth from approximately 53,000 students to more than 161,000 students today. The resolution also reaffirms the Board's commitment to ensuring every student has the opportunity to reach their full potential while encouraging schools and the community to participate in anniversary events and activities throughout the year. Salads temporarily removed from school menus

Out of an abundance of caution, we are temporarily removing all salads, parsley, and cilantro from school menus, including entrée salads, à la carte salads, and tossed salads offered on serving lines due to the Cyclospora outbreak. We will continue to monitor guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and make any necessary adjustments to our menus and procedures as additional information becomes available. At this time, the CDC has not issued any recalls related to produce. The health and safety of our students and staff remain our top priority, and we appreciate your understanding as we take this precautionary step.

Vaccines required and recommended for teens

July is Adolescent Immunization Awareness Month, making it a great time to check your teen's immunization record before the new school year. North Carolina requires certain vaccines for students entering 7th and 12th grade, and additional vaccines are recommended to help protect teens from preventable diseases. Schedule an appointment with your health care provider to make sure your child is up to date. Eligible children and teens can receive free vaccines through the Vaccines for Children program. BAPS Charities donates $10,000 to support student meals 

We are grateful to BAPS Charities for their generosity and commitment to our students. The organization held its annual Walk/Run event in Wake County and dedicated this year’s fundraiser to the WCPSS Angel Fund, which helps students who don't have enough money to purchase their school meals. Thanks to the dedication of their volunteers and community supporters, $10,000 will be added to our Angel Fund to help ensure that no child goes hungry during the school day. Register now for Kick-Off to Kindergarten happening Aug. 22

We're proud to partner with Marbles Kids Museum for our annual Kick-Off to Kindergarten on Aug. 22! Families on the traditional calendar are invited to get ready for kindergarten with engaging activities and programming to help rising kindergartners and their families prepare for school. Kick-off to Kindergarten helps rising kindergartners and their families prepare for kindergarten with activities that introduce kids to a typical school day. Community partners will be on-site with helpful resources. This is a free event, but registration is required.
