The Board approved the 2026-27 instructional calendars for year-round, leadership academies, and early college schools at the April 7 meeting. The Board also approved the 2027-28 instructional calendars for traditional, year-round, and modified schools. Learn more.

Superintendent’s proposed 2026-27 budget presented to Board of Education

On April 7, the Board of Education received the Superintendent's Proposed Budget for the 2026-27 school year. It includes a proposed increase of $25.3 million in local funding, as well as strategic spending reductions to balance the budget. After public hearings and discussions, the Board is expected to approve its own budget proposal and send it to the Wake County Board of Commissioners by May 15. Learn more.

Take the 2026 Family Survey now through May 15

Help us make your child's school experience as positive and beneficial as possible by giving honest, thoughtful responses to the questions in our family survey now through May 15. Complete the survey, which is available in seven different languages, once for each school where you have a child enrolled. Virtual information sessions on student assignment

Student Assignment staff is hosting several virtual public engagement sessions to provide a general understanding of the planning process and to continue conversations about enrollment planning for the 2027-28 school year and beyond. Each session will focus on a specific area of the county. Sessions include:

On May 6 and 12, general sessions will be offered for anyone who missed their area session or would like to learn more about enrollment planning overall. More information about the general sessions will be shared closer to those dates. Submit feedback via ThoughtExchange by April 30. Learn more.

Our Family Academy invites parents and caregivers to an informative event focused on navigating the educational system on Saturday, April 18 from 9 a.m. to noon at the Hindu Society of North Carolina, 309 Aviation Parkway, Morrisville. Guests will hear from various representatives from our school system, including the AIG Program, Special Education, and Magnet Program. Register today

Save the date: Letterland Days at Pullen Park set for May 4-10

This annual celebration brings our phonics program to life, helping students engage with the characters and concepts that make learning to read fun. Throughout the week of May 4-10, Letterland character cutouts will be displayed throughout Pullen Park. Families are invited to visit the park from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. to search for their favorite Letterlanders hidden around the park. Families are invited on May 4 and 7 from 5 to 8 p.m. for interactive Letterland Activity Nights featuring face painting, an obstacle course, jump ropes, bubble stations, and more! Students will also have the opportunity to meet Clever Cat, Bouncy Ben, and Annie Apple during these special evenings. Register online.

Families of middle and high school students with special needs can learn more about transition support and resources tomorrow

The last Transition and Community Agency Fair for this school year will be held tomorrow, April 9, at Sanderson High in Raleigh from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. The event will showcase local organizations, provide opportunities to connect with agency representatives, and offer informative sessions on guardianship and adult services. Calling all middle schoolers: Safe Routes to School wants to see your creativity

Safe Routes to School Wake County is asking students in grades 6-8 to help make our roads safer! The Safety is No Accident Poster Contest invites students to design a poster reminding drivers to yield to pedestrians at crosswalks. The winner will have their poster displayed across Wake County and also receive a new bicycle! Posters are due at participating libraries by April 11. Learn more.
