Bus Rider Registration

Students may request to board or depart the bus at a stop other than their home address (for example, a caregiver’s home or after-school program). These requests are considered on a case-by-case basis and are not guaranteed.

• Submit your request through the Transportation Request form.
• Space must be available on the requested route.
• You will be notified if the stop is approved.

2026–27 Request Dates
July 20, 2026: Year-Round schools (Multi-Track)
Aug. 4, 2026: Modified calendar schools and Track 4
Sept. 25, 2026: Traditional calendar schools

Families can request a different express bus stop for their student before the new school year begins.

How it works

• We assign each student receiving magnet express bus service to the nearest express stop based on your home address. Express stops are usually at schools or community centers.
• If you need a different stop, you can request an alternate express stop for the morning, afternoon, or both. Only existing magnet express stops for your student’s school are eligible. New stop locations are not considered through this process.

Important deadlines

To ensure service at your preferred stop on the first day of school 2026-27:

• Modified calendar schools: Request by June 15, 2026
• Traditional calendar schools: Request by July 13, 2026

If we receive your request after these dates, we will process it in the order received. We cannot guarantee approval if the route is full.

After the deadline

• If your request is approved, it applies to the current school year only. You must submit a new request each year if you wish to continue using an alternate stop.
• Please submit only one request per student. Submitting duplicates may delay our response

Some students are not eligible for school bus transportation. Families may request service for these students after the first month of school.

What to know:

• Transportation Request forms are reviewed in the order received.
• If approved, service is provided for the current school year only. A new request must be submitted each year.
• Eligible students are given priority. Processing may take several weeks while routes are established.

Do not submit duplicate requests, as this slows down the processing.

If your child has special transportation needs or is in transition, notify the school as soon as possible and submit the Transportation Request form once your address is updated in the system.

Because priority is given to transportation between home and school, it may take several weeks to process these requests.

Please do not submit duplicate requests, as this can delay your initial submission.

If you move and remain eligible for transportation, update the address in Infinite Campus first. After that, submit the Transportation Request form. Note that cutoff dates still apply, so submitting early is beneficial.

Your student's school assignment determines your transportation type. Transportation information is stated on your student's official school assignment letter and can be viewed via the WCPSS Address Look-Up Tool for the 2026-27 school year.

The Transportation Services Request form is provided for families of enrolled students whose school assignment for the 2026-27 school year includes either neighborhood or express transportation, allowing them to request or update bus ridership information.

Families can find up-to-date transportation information in their student’s Infinite Campus account. Sign up for an account at your student’s school. 

See the following guidance on whether to fill out this form:

• If your student's school assignment includes neighborhood or express busing, and you would like to request a change in bus service, please fill out this form.
• If your student's school assignment provides for neighborhood or express busing and the information is correct, do not complete this form.
• If your student's school assignment for the 2026-27 school year requires parents to provide transportation, do not fill out this form. 
• If you have a student who resides in the No Transport Zone for the school they will attend for the 2026-27 school year, do not fill out this form.

Please note that school bus transportation is available only for regular riders. Do not fill out this form if your student will not ride the school bus on a consistent basis. Once bus routes have stabilized, the practice is to remove students from bus rosters if they do not ride the bus for 10 consecutive school days.

Here are the 2026-27 cut-off dates for eligible families (neighborhood or express service, as determined by the student's school assignment) requesting transportation to ensure service on the first day of school.

• Year-round calendar schools, regardless of track assignment, must request bus service by May 27, 2026
• Modified calendar schools must request bus service by June 15, 2026
• Traditional calendar schools must request bus service by July 13, 2026

For families who request transportation services after the cutoff date, bus service is not guaranteed for the beginning of the school year. Requests received after these cutoff dates will be processed in the order received. Transportation will make every effort to provide service using existing bus stops as quickly as possible.

Families of children who are in transition, have Individual Education Plans (IEPs), or have plans under Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 (504) may need to request special transportation, as they move into the community or change address. These families will need to enroll their child in the new school or notify their current school of the address change and inform school staff of their child's IEP, 504 plan or request assistance through the McKinney-Vento Program if the living situation is in transition.

Families with students who have previously enrolled and are eligible for transportation may request school bus transportation to their new address. Please do not submit this form until your student's address has been updated by your school in PowerSchool. WCPSS has established cut-off dates to ensure service for the first day of school. Requests received after the applicable cut-off date will be processed in the order received. Transportation will make every effort to provide service to eligible students using existing bus stops as quickly as possible.

We assign bus transportation in accordance with state guidelines and school board policies. Here's how we make those decisions, and what families can expect.

General transportation rules

• Students are assigned to specific buses based on state rules and capacity.

• Students living inside a No Transport Zone are not automatically assigned to a bus. See details below.

• Students attending a school via transfer are not guaranteed transportation.

• Students with temporary medical conditions may qualify for special accommodations.
   

Types of transportation

Neighborhood busing
Students walk to a nearby stop shared with others. Buses stop at multiple neighborhood locations before arriving at school. In the afternoon, students return to the same stop. Note: Students in a No Transport Zone are not eligible for neighborhood busing.

Express transportation
Families drive students to a central stop (such as a school or community center). Buses pick up and return students to that location. Due to driver shortages, express buses may also make neighborhood stops. Travel times may be longer during peak traffic.

Ride times

• Proximity students (elementary and secondary): Under 1 hour

• Magnet, application, and transfer students: Up to 45 additional minutes

No Transport Zone (NTZ) families

WCPSS does not automatically provide bus service to families who live within 1.5 miles of their assigned school if this area has been assigned as a No Transport Zone by the Transportation department. We consider the following when creating or modifying a No Transport Zone:

• Traffic and safety conditions along the route

• Speed limits and traffic controls

• Sidewalks or safety features

• Nearby commercial or industrial areas

• Cost of additional stops

• Bus route efficiency

NTZ boundaries may change if road safety improves or new routes are added. If your home is within a No Transport Zone, you are responsible for transportation.

Bus stop placement

We place stops based on safety and accessibility:

• Maximum walking distance of: 0.3 miles for elementary students; 0.5 miles for middle and high school students

• Express stops may exceed are not subject to these distances

• Stops are placed at corners, at least 0.2 miles apart

• Buses use only state-maintained roads; they generally do not enter cul-de-sacs

Requesting a bus stop change

You can request a change to your child’s bus stop location for safety reasons by completing the Transportation Requests form. Please note that the distance from your home to the assigned stop is not considered a safety issue.

Stop safety criteria

• Adequate lighting

• Safe walking paths

• Space for multiple students

• Visibility to approaching vehicles

• Traffic speed and volume

• Safe space for the bus to stop or turn

Bus routes are no longer posted online. Instead, you can find all transportation details in your Campus Parent account on Infinite Campus.

What if I don't have a Campus Parent account?

Check your email for a message from SIS-Notification with instructions to create one. Once your account is set up, follow these steps to see your student’s bus information:

1. In the left-hand menu, scroll to the bottom and select More.
2. Click Transportation.
3. Your child’s bus route and stop details will appear.

You can view estimated stop times in your Campus Parent account.

Tip: Have your student ready at the stop at least 10 minutes before the scheduled time. Arrival times may vary during the first few weeks of school as families adjust. Unexpected traffic can also cause delays.

Parents will receive 2025–26 bus route information on these dates:

• June 18, 2025 – Multi-Track Year-Round schools (all tracks)
• July 11, 2025 – Modified calendar schools, Track 4 schools, leadership academies, early colleges, and college and career academies
• August 15, 2025 – Traditional calendar schools
