Calendars and Attendance
When students attend school every day, they build strong habits, relationships, and learning momentum. Missing just a few days each month can make it harder to keep up. Use the resources below to plan ahead and help your student stay on track all year.
Every Day Counts. Plan ahead.
Good attendance starts with planning. Here are a few ways to make it easier:
- Review your school’s calendar early to plan vacations or appointments.
- Set morning and bedtime routines for smoother starts.
- Keep contact information updated so your school can reach you quickly.
- Communicate with teachers or counselors if you notice attendance challenges.
Did you know? Missing just two days a month—whether excused or unexcused—adds up to more than two weeks of lost learning each year.
Tips to Support Attendance at Every Stage
Reporting Absences
If your student must miss school, please send a written or digital note within two days of returning.
Excused absences include:
-
Illness or injury
-
A death in the family
-
Health care appointments
-
Court appearances
-
Religious observances
-
Natural disasters
-
Educational opportunities (requires advance approval)
To request an excused absence for an educational reason, complete one of these forms before the absence:
Without a note, the absence will be marked unexcused. If your child has three or more unexcused absences, your school will contact you to discuss ways to support regular attendance.
Reminder: Students are responsible for completing all missed work. Teachers will share schedules and expectations for making up assignments.
