Principal Message October 11, 2024

Dear Dragon Families,

Thanks you to those who have supported our 4H / NJHS Hurricane Relief Donation Drive to support the families that have been impacted by Hurricane Helene. In just a few short days, we have been able to collect much-needed resources for our friends in Western North Carolina. We will be collecting items until Thursday, 10/17.  The school year continues to fly by. We are now fully into October, with less than three weeks remaining in Quarter 1. Continue to have conversations with your students around where they stand with their grades and effort towards each class. November 1 is going to sneak up on us. Lots of information below!

Ask your student about….

6th Grade –. Ask your 6th grader about their science test.

7th Grade – Ask your 7th grader about their ELA test.

8th Grade – Ask your 8th grader about their ELA test

ALL – Ask your student if they are going to participate in Spirit Week next week.

SCHOOL FALL DANCE – Our student council will be hosting our first fall dance October 18, 5:30pm -7:30pm. To attend the dance, students need to be passing all classes and not receive more than on ISS or 1 OSS starting Monday, 10/7 – 10/18. We also will be celebrating the end of Hispanic Heritage Month with some fun activities during the dance. Tickets will go on sale October 15th.

MINI MAGNET FAIR - ATTENTION ALL 8th GRADERS- Come learn about all the early colleges and high school career academies. Dillard Drive Magnet Middles School is hosting a mini magnet fair on October 17, 2024 at 6:00pm – See the FLYER HERE

 

LEADERSHIP ACADEMIES - The Leadership Academies' application deadline is DEC 12th.

  • WYMLA Open House - Tuesday, October 22nd, 5-6 pm. We will have a Spanish translator available on this night.
  • WCPSS Early College Fair - Saturday, October 12th @ Vernon Malone High School 9 am - 11 am
  • WCPSS Magnet and Early College Fair - Saturday, October 26th @ Enloe High School 9 am -12 noon
  • We have  WYMLA campus Tours that parents can sign up for on our website.  The first tour will start October 15th.   WYMLA information    /   WYMLA website 

 

WASHINGTON DC 8th GRADE TRIP - Attention DDMMS 8th graders and families! Join us for an important interest meeting about the upcoming field trip to Washington, D.C. on October 15th from 5 to 6 PM in the media center at DDMMS. We’ll cover general information about the trip, a detailed cost breakdown, and what your student(s) can expect. This is a great opportunity to ask questions and learn more about this exciting experience. We hope to see you there!

UPDATE FOR HEALTHFUL LIVING - Reproductive Health & Safety

The Healthful Living Department will be teaching the WCPSS mandated Reproductive Health & Safety (RHS) unit the week of October 21st - October 25th.  Parents / Legal Guardians should read through THIS document beforehand and contact your child's Healthful Living teacher with any questions.

NCSU OPEN HOUSE - NC State University Open House 2024 will be held on Saturday, October 19. During the event, NC State’s Main and Centennial Campuses will be open to explore. While there is no formal event schedule, you will be able to choose from 100+ sessions to learn more about what interests you. DRESS CODE REMINDER – The WCPSS Dress Code Policy was shared with students during our Dragon Chats. POLICY HERE We are seeing a lot of students who are not abiding by the dress code, specifically with short-shorts - Students must wear clothing that covers their skin from chest to mid-thigh with opaque (non-see-through) fabric in front, back, and on the sides. Thank you.
