Hello Partnership Parents. Our world has changed greatly since we left for our spring track out due to the Coronavirus. This is an unprecedented time for us in education with many unanswered questions. Governor Cooper has acted with most other governors in the United States by closing schools. North Carolina schools will continue to be closed next week with the possibility that this closure may be extended. WCPSS has developed a COVID-19 update page to keep you informed. You may find it at the top of the school system’s website, wcpss.net. This week WCPSS partnered with other local agencies to create a program for providing breakfast and lunch for families in need of meals. If you are interested in participating or helping, please visit the WCPSS COVID-19 update page.

Next week, WCPSS is following North Carolina Department of Public Instruction recommendations by sharing optional supplemental learning resources for you to complete with your children. These activities practice previously taught skills to minimize student learning loss. They are optional assignments which will not be graded. We highly encourage you to visit the website and have your children complete the activities.

As the last few weeks have shown, this is a very evolving situation. If the school closure is extended into the future, how learning occurs could change. We know there are many Partnership events in doubt right now. Superintendent Moore shared that this pandemic could very well impact us through the end of the school year. WCPSS is dependent on decisions yet to be made at the state level, such decisions may affect making up school days missed, end of grade testing, grades 1-3 reading camp, and more. We will keep you updated through school wide messages as changes are announced. If you have questions or concerns, please reach out to us. Please stay safe, practice social distancing, and we hope we are able to see you soon.
