Ms. Aman's May 1 Family Message
Posted by Kelly Aman on 5/1/2022 7:00:00 AM
School is closed for students on Monday, May 2 for teacher workday. Students return to school at 8:15am on Tuesday.
Teacher Appreciation Week: May 1 - 6 is Teacher Appreciation Week! We celebrate and recognize our teachers this week for the incredible work they do each day! I'd also like to thank the PTA for providing lunch for our school's support staff last week in honor of Administrative Professionals Week and thanks in advance for providing lunch this Wednesday for our fantastic teaching staff at West Millbrook.
Students Not Feeling Well: It is imperative for families to check in with their children prior to sending them to school. We are seeing a significant increase in the number of students going to the care center prior to 8:45am. Students who are not well must remain at home.
Dress Code+: Please check in with your student to ensure he/she is meeting dress code expectations. Hats and sunglasses are not permitted inside buildings. Pajamas and bedrooms shoes may not be worn at school. All attire must meet WCPSS dress code expectations. Cell phones must be off and stored in bookbags, unless otherwise directed by the classroom teacher.
Interims: This is the final interim period for the 2021-22 school year. All grades will be updated in PowerSchool by 5pm on Friday, May 6. Please review your child’s interim grades to ensure they are meeting your academic expectations as we enter the final 4 weeks of school.
EOG Testing Window: Students will be taking EOG/EOC tests Tuesday, May 31 – Tuesday, June 7. Make ups may continue past June 7 if students are absent. As you are planning appointments for your child in the coming weeks, you will want to consult the testing schedule. As a reminder we are not permitted to interrupt the testing setting and are not able to check students out until testing ends at approximately 12:30 each day.
EOG Retesting Opportunity: West Millbrook Magnet Middle School is committed to providing all students with an excellent education. At the end of the school year, your child will participate in the regular administration of North Carolina End-of-Grade (EOG) tests (Reading, Math and Science 8). Students who score Level 3 or higher on these assessments are considered proficient.
Students who do not score a Level 3 or higher the EOG and pass the course have the option to participate in a Remediation and Re-administration opportunity on June 14 and 15.
Transportation will be provided, and breakfast and lunch will be available.
At this time, we are providing families with information about this opportunity. After students complete their EOGs we will determine which students are eligible and notify those families of their child’s eligibility to retest.
Please complete THIS FORM so that we know if you want your child to participate in retesting if they pass the class but do not earn at least a 3 on the EOG.
District Survey: All families have received a link to the WCPSS Panorama survey. The feedback you provide helps our district with strategic planning.
Chromebook Information for all families: The Technology Resource Management Team will be contacting students, and parents/guardians via email about their student device to verify that they are using their assigned device. We will also ask students/parents to check that their device is in working order before summer and the transition to a new school year. Students are to keep their Chromebooks at the end of this school year unless the student is graduating or withdrawing from all WCPSS school sites.

WMMMS Summer Sport Camps are BACK!!!
Rising 6th-8th graders are invited to participate in the West Millbrook Magnet Summer Sports Camps! Run by WMMMS coaches and staff, this is a great opportunity.
- Rising 6th graders, meet some of our staff and make new friends to ward off a bit of the nervousness that can come with starting middle school.
- Rising 7th graders, this is a great opportunity to decide what sports you want to try out for in the coming year.
- And rising 8th graders, get back in the swing of things before school starts and be ready to hit the ground running when our fall sports season kicks off.
Camps include: Girls Volleyball, Co-Ed Soccer, Co-Ed Basketball, Cheer and Football. Dates, cost and registration information are all available here -
