Greetings Powell Families,
Bren Bataclan Mural: We had an excellent week with our visiting artist, Bren Bataclan. Our mural theme was points of interest from the three NC Regions, including the Mountains, Piedmont, and the Coastal Plains. Thank you to our 5th grade students for helping to create this beautiful legacy project.
Spring Book Fair: Our Spring Book Fair is this week, 5/15/22 - 5/20/22. Scholastic book fair proceeds support our Powell Media Center. All students will visit the Book Fair on Monday, 5/16, to browse the books for sale. Visit our Online Scholastic Book Fair where you can view the electronic book fair flier and shop at our book fair from the comfort of your home beginning TODAY through 5/26/22. We will have open shopping for parents and students at the following times:
- May 17th-May 20th from 8:45am - 12:00pm.
- Thursday, May 19th from 4:00-6:30pm
- Friday, May 20th 5:00-7:30pm (During Pawlooza)
This will only be possible with enough volunteers. The PTA is in need of people to run the cash registers, help with getting items from behind the counter, and general supervision of kids and crowd control. Please click here to sign up to volunteer. Anyone is welcome to volunteer, but you must be a PTA member to run the cash registers. Thank you in advance for your help!
Weekly myON Update: Be sure to listen to Mrs. Hart’s weekly myON Update. There is a big celebration shared in this update.
Election Day: This Tuesday, 5/17/22, is the state primary election day. Powell is a polling site. Please be patient and expect more traffic on campus on Tuesday. Your Voice, Your Vote! Remember to vote on Tuesday.
School Improvement Team Meeting: Our next SIT meeting is on 5/18/22 at 7:40 AM.
Kindergarten Orientation: We are excited to meet our incoming Kindergarten families this Thursday, 5/19/22 at 5:30 PM.
Band/Orchestra Concert: Our Band and Orchestra students will perform this Thursday, 5/19/22 at 6:30 PM.
Powell Pawlooza: Our Pawlooza has been rescheduled to this Friday, 5/20/22, from 5:00 - 7:30 PM. We will have food, games, crafts, and more but it can not be possible without volunteers. Please consider signing up to volunteer by clicking here. Thank you in advance!!
Not returning to WCPSS Next Year?: If you know your child will not be attending a Wake County Public School for 2022-2023, Student Assignment requests that you let us know in writing along with what district and school they will be attending. Mrs. Bost will contact you before submitting to OoSA to verify that they are sure since they are taken out of the system. Please email Mrs. Bost at csbost@wcpss.net with this information.
Early Checkouts: Early Checkouts are now part of a student's attendance record, just like tardies. We are seeing an increase in early checkouts. Please keep students in school through the duration of the school day. Early checkouts are now entered into PowerSchool.
Covid-19 Communication Reminder: If your child has tested positive for Covid, if you have a positive Covid Case in your household, or your child is considered a Covid exposure, please email powelles@wcpss.net and cbrower2@wcpss.net as soon as possible. All Covid test results should be emailed to powelles@wcpss.net.
Covid-19 Voluntary Testing: Our Mako Medical Covid-19 Pool testing is off to a great start. Testing takes place Thursday. Parents, if you wish for your child to participate, sign up here. If your child has tested positive for Covid in the past 90 days, they will not participate in the pool testing.
Substitutes: We are frequently short of substitutes which requires Instructional Assistants to be pulled from their classes and other certified staff being pulled from their assigned tasks. Have you ever thought about substituting? Here’s the information if you’d like to help us in this area: Substitutes Needed
Have a great week!
