Greetings Powell Families,

Class Group Photos & Spring Picture Retakes: We have shared concerns with Lifetouch with the lack of attention to our school class group photos. Also, there was a miscommunication within Lifetouch and individual photos were not taken. To address these concerns, Lifetouch will be on campus on Wednesday, 4/20/22 to retake every class group photo and individual photos for those who purchased a package. Thank you for your patience as we worked through this situation with Lifetouch.

National Assistant Principal Appreciation Week: This week is National Assistant Principal Appreciation Week.  We are so thankful for our Assistant Principal, Mrs. Melissa Hart.  Mrs. Hart is a key stakeholder in our school community. She wears many hats at Powell and is instrumental in the success of our school. Thank you, Mrs. Hart, for all that you do each and every day for our staff, parents, and most importantly - our students. We appreciate you!

School Library Media Coordinator Day: Tomorrow, 4/04/22, we celebrate our School Library Media Coordinator, Mrs. Jessica Gill. Thank you to Mrs. Gill for knowing our students’ interest and keeping our circulation collection up to date and interesting. We appreciate your willingness to assist our teachers with their media needs. Thank you for all that you do!

Panorama Survey for All Families:  Wake County Public Schools is administering a District Wide Family Survey from Monday, April 4, through Friday, May 6. This survey provides families the opportunity to provide valuable information and a high-quality data source for planning and School Improvement.  The survey has been translated into various languages; Spanish, Arabic, French, Korean, Vietnamese, and Chinese in an effort to provide accessibility to families in Wake County Public Schools. The survey administration language can be chosen by families before taking the survey.

Spring Break: Next week, 4/11 - 4/15/22, is our much anticipated Spring Break.  I hope you enjoy a nice break. There will not be a weekly memo next week.

Foster Care Bags: Girl Scout Troop 4858, which several Powell students are members of, needs your help!  They are working on their Bronze Award project, which helps develop leadership skills while also supporting a community need.  They have elected to create "Foster Care Bags" to support kids in foster care who may leave their home with very little or nothing of their own!  Please consider donating the following items:

  • PJs
  • Socks
  • Underwear
  • Bath supplies (toothbrush, hair brush)
  • Coloring books and crayons
  • Notebooks
  • Board games or card games

Donations will be accepted through May 1st, and can be placed in the collection bin in the Powell lobby.  Questions?  Contact Jessica Gill at jgill3@wcpss.net

Lunch Volunteers: Thank you to the parents who have volunteered this year to support lunch supervision. We continue to have a need for volunteers. If your schedule permits, please consider volunteering. You can sign up for individual shifts including specified dates and times. Sign up as a lunch volunteer here.

Covid-19 Communication Reminder: If your child has tested positive for Covid, if you have a positive Covid Case in your household, or your child is considered a Covid exposure, please email powelles@wcpss.net and cbrower2@wcpss.net as soon as possible. All Covid test results should be emailed to powelles@wcpss.net

Covid-19 Voluntary Testing: Our Mako Medical Covid-19 Pool testing is off to a great start. Testing takes place Thursday. Parents, if you wish for your child to participate, sign up here. If your child has tested positive for Covid in the past 90 days, they will not participate in the pool testing.

Substitutes:  We are frequently short of substitutes which requires Instructional Assistants to be pulled from their classes and other certified staff being pulled from their assigned tasks.  Have you ever thought about substituting?  Here’s the information if you’d like to help us in this area:  Substitutes Needed

Have a great week!
