Weekly Message for 1-22-23
Posted by Andrew Livengood on 1/22/2023
Hello Pine Hollow Middle School community. This is your principal, Andrew Livengood, with the weekly message for January 22.
- This Week: This week is a five-day week for students on Tracks 1 and 4.
- Love the Bus: Student Council is collecting items to celebrate our incredible Bus Drivers during the Love the Bus week in February. Please visit this sign up to bring in items. All items should be turned in no later than February 1 to the front office attention Mrs. West/Student Council.
- Report Cards: Students on Track 4 will get their report card on Wednesday.
- From Our Athletic Director, Mr. Adams: Pilot parents, last week we saw some exciting battles against East Millbrook in basketball. The boys fought hard and unfortunately came up short. The girls fought through heavy fouls to win the battle of the unbeatens. We are exactly half-way through our basketball season. This week we open on the road at Salem on Monday and at home on Thursday against West Millbrook. https://gofan.co/app/events/694739?schoolId=NC67966
- DRAGONFLY: Please check your DragonFly accounts to see if they are up to date. I noticed that some physicals have expired. I also had to reject some paperwork, so please check your account.
- SPRING TRYOUTS (Girls Softball, Boys’ and Girls’ Track and Boys’ Soccer): Spring Tryouts begin on Feb 27. You must be completely registered and approved in DragonFly by Feb 20. In the next 2 weeks I will begin posting lists on the Athletic Bulletin Board of students that are approved for tryouts. Spring sports eligibility is based on the first semester of this year. Students must pass 3 out of 4 Core Classes while attending 85% of the semester.
- Second Step:
- 6-1 students will describe what happens in their brains when they feel a strong emotion.
- 6-4 students will describe how strong emotions can influence the decisions they make.
- 7-1 students will practice using positive self-talk to reframe a challenging situation.
- 7-4 students will identify common reasons why social conflicts escalate from minor to major.
- 8-1 students will reframe certain types of stress as opportunities for growth.
- 8-4 students will analyze stressful situations, decide if they need to change strategies or get outside help to manage their stress, and identify people who can help them when they feel their stress is unmanageable.
- Carpool Efficiency: Please pull as far forward as you can before letting your student into/out of your vehicle, even if it means your student has to walk a little further. This keeps the line moving as quickly as possible. Please do not stop to call for your child. Keep pulling forward and they will find you, or we will find them for you.

- Teacher Recognition Program: Is there a teacher or staff member you would like to celebrate for doing a terrific job? Has someone been consistently outstanding or maybe gone above-and-beyond recently for your student/family? If so, I encourage you to nominate that person for our Top Gun Staff Member of the Month award. There aren’t any firm rules or requirements to nominate someone for recognition. The point of this is to recognize a teacher or two each month who was nominated by a student or parent. The teacher(s) would be recognized in front of their peers at the next staff meeting. In order to nominate someone, just fill out this form and make sure to clearly explain why you think they are deserving of this recognition.
- From the PTSA:
- The PTSA is excited for a busy 2023! During the second half of this school year, the PTSA will plan two more dances, two more athletic banquets, a cultural arts storyteller experience, and an eighth grade end-of-year celebration. The PTSA will continue to financially support the school with teacher and club grants, performance/fine arts and athletics funding, teacher lounge stocking, and work day lunches for teachers/staff. Hard-working PTSA board members will stock and sell concessions and spirit wear for our students to enjoy. We are excited for all that we have planned, and we are happy that we can help contribute to the success of Pine Hollow Middle School! Thank you to all of the families who have already contributed financially to the PTSA to help achieve these goals. If you would like to support the efforts of the PTSA and directly support our school by doing so, please consider a donation to our Invest in Your Child Campaign. https://pinehollow.memberhub.com/store/items/61043
