Principal's Weekly Message for 8-4-19
Posted by Andrew Livengood on 8/3/2019 6:00:00 AM
Hello Pine Hollow Middle School community. This is your principal, Andrew Livengood, with the weekly message for August 4.
- Premium Spirit Wear: The deadline to place an order for premium Nike & Under Armour Spirit Wear is Monday, August 5! Place your order at www.bsnteamsports.com using the access code: LLuunRBbHu
- Band Instrument Rental Night: Thursday, August 8 for Track 4 students.
- 7th Grade Tdap and Meningococcal Vaccines: By law all 7th graders must provide proof of these immunizations by the dates listed below or they must be excluded from school until proof is provided. This is not a Pine Hollow or WCPSS policy but a NC law. The only exceptions are students with a medical or religious exemption. Deadlines for this year are:
- Tracks 1-3: August 9
- Track 4: August 30
- Free and Reduced-Price Meals: Prior year benefits may be used by students in the new school year for a maximum of 30 operating days or until an application for the new school year has been processed, whichever comes first. All students who wish to have free or reduced-price meals must re-apply each school year. After the expire date below, any student who has not submitted a new application will have to pay for meals until a new application has been processed. Hard copy applications are available in the cafeteria and may be submitted at any time during the school year. Expire dates for this year are:
- Track 1: August 19
- Track 2: September 9
- Track 3: September 10
- Track 4: September 9
- Fall Pictures: Wednesday, August 14 for students on Track 1, 2 & 4. Students on Track 3 will be on Thursday, September 12.
- Athletics: Tryouts for the fall sports season will begin on Tuesday, August 27. 7th and 8th graders wishing to tryout must meet eligibility requirements and have their paperwork submitted to Mr. Adams by Monday, August 19. Click the Athletics tab on our website for more information.
- Carpool: Parents, we need your help in maintaining a safe and orderly carpool for everyone. Everyone’s time is precious and by following the established procedures we can maintain safety and get vehicles in and out as fast as possible.
- In the morning, please pull up as far as you can before letting your student out of the vehicle by the curb so that we can maximize efficiency. Do not drop your students off elsewhere (i.e. in the middle of the parking lot, on another street, etc.) as it is unsafe for them to cut between cars.
- In the afternoon, please pull up as far as possible and encourage your student to actively look for your car while they wait (rather than just socializing). Only students who live within our walk zone and have a Walker’s Pass may walk off campus (contact the main office if your student needs a Walker’s Pass). Students are not allowed to walk off campus in order to catch their ride elsewhere.
- Buses: You can determine your child's bus pickup time and location by accessing their PowerSchool account. If you do not have an account, please come by PHMS with a photo ID to get access to an account.
- Please use the “Here Comes the Bus” app to track your student’s bus in the mornings and afternoons. For information on the app, please visit: https://www.wcpss.net/Page/35380
- For Joint-Custody parents: bus transportation is only permitted to the address listed in PowerSchool for your student. If you wish for your child to be allowed to ride to a different address due to joint-custody, then you will need to fill out the following form: https://tinyurl.com/y4ktcq2sPlease note that these requests are not processed until after the 20th day of school by Transportation and are never guaranteed. It is the parent's responsibility to provide transportation to the secondary address until then.
- Per Transportation students are only allowed to be transported to the stop associated with the address we have in PowerSchool. If there is another stop you would like your child to be able to ride to (e.g. babysitter, relative, etc.) a request must be submitted here https://www.wcpss.net/Page/179. Please note that these requests are not processed until after the 20th day of school by Transportation and are never guaranteed. It is the parent's responsibility to provide transportation to the secondary address until then.
- Due to the volume of requests and questions during this time of year, it is often faster to communicate with our assistant principal for transportation via email. Please email him at ctunstall@wcpss.net if you have any questions or concerns.
- Cell Phones: Please be aware that we are tightening up on students using their phones without permission. Teachers have reviewed this multiple times the first few days to ensure students are aware. Students using a phone without permission are subject to having the phone confiscated and kept in the main office until a parent can pick it up.
- Checking Students Out of School: We take the safety and security of our students very seriously; therefore, anyone we do not yet know by name and face will be asked to show ID when coming to the office to sign a student out of school. We apologize for any inconvenience this causes and we appreciate your patience as we learn our ever-growing Pilot community.
- Student Agendas: All students receive a free copy of the Student Agenda (handbook) the first day of school. Please make sure you review it with your student so that you are also aware of our policies and procedures. An electronic copy of the agenda is also available on our website under the “Students” tab. Students who lose their agenda may purchase another one for $5 in the main office.
- Teacher/Team Communications: In addition to this weekly message which provides broad information regarding school-wide events, all of our teams maintain their own websites with more detailed information that you will find useful in supporting your child here at PHMS. To find this information go to our school website (wcpss.net/pinehollowms) and click on “Academics” then your child’s grade-level and their track. I encourage you to bookmark your child’s team site and visit it frequently so that you have accurate and up-to-date information regarding your child’s classes. And as always, feel free to reach out to your child’s teacher(s) if there are any questions or concerns.
- From the PTSA:
- Spirit Wear will be sold via online ordering this year and there is a new t-shirt design! https://www.phmsptsa.net/spirit-wear
- Have a great week and remember, at Pine Hollow Middle School the sky is the limit!
