Posted by Andrew Livengood on 2/17/2019 6:00:00 AM
Hello Pine Hollow Middle School community. This is your principal, Andrew Livengood, with the message for the week of February 17.
- Attention 8th grade parents: Our counselors will be offering another parent information session on Tuesday at 9AM to help you support your student with the upcoming transition to high school. See the flyer in the weekly message for more information and a listing of high school open houses.
- Spring Pictures: Strawbridge Studios will be here on Thursday to take pictures for students on Tracks 3-4 and for students on 8-1.
- Spring Dance: Friday from 3:15-5:00. Admission is $5 at the door. Students must have a signed permission form to attend. Forms are available on our website or attached to the weekly message. This dance is for PHMS students only.
- Cultural Arts: Our PTSA has arranged for several performing arts groups to come to our school over the next few weeks as part of our Black History Month activities. We are pleased to welcome North Carolina Theatre Conservatory’s Stage2School back on Feb. 26 (for 7th & 8th graders on Tracks 1&3) as they present The Sound of Freedom: A Journey of African American Music History Through Song. On March 8 we welcome The Beast as they present Sankofa: African American Music from Spirituals to Hip Hop (all students). Thanks to the PTSA’s Cultural Arts Committee for their hard work and financial support in arranging these performances.
- Community Reads: We are cultivating a culture of reading at PHMS by sharing our reading within our community. We encourage students, school staff, parents, relatives, and neighbors to read the same book and engage in discussion with each other. Our second Community Reads selection this school year is Ghostby Jason Reynolds. (https://www.simonandschuster.com/books/Ghost/Jason-Reynolds/Track/9781481450164) We encourage participants to order their own paperback copy for $5 (visit scholastic.com, 'Parents' section, use the code gkdv8, and order by February 8th [trks 1,2,4] or February 20th [trk 3] deadline). You can also check out a copy from the PHMS library or from a local public library. Two after-school discussion gatherings will be held in the Pine Hollow Library on April 16th and April 25th.If you have any questions, please contact Kristen Ziller (library media specialist, kziller@wcpss.net) or Mike Hutchinson (6th grade Social Studies teacher, jhutchinson@wcpss.net).
- Track Change Request: Parents who would like to request a track change for next year may do so from now until March 11. Forms are available in the weekly message and on our website. Forms must be received by March 11 in order to be considered.
- School Tours: If someone you know is interested in our school for next year, please encourage them to sign-up for a tour. The link is available on our website under “PHMS Tours” or they can click here.
