American Indian Heritage Month

American Indian Heritage Month

NC Governor Roy Cooper issued a proclamation for American Indian Heritage Month as an opportunity to honor and celebrate the history and heritage of the American Indian people in our state. North Carolina is home to eight state-recognized Indian tribes: the Coharie, the Eastern Band of Cherokee, the Haliwa-Saponi, the Lumbee, the Meherrin, the Occaneechi Band of the Saponi Nation, the Sappony, and the Waccamaw-Siouan.

Hear the voices of our students who seek to set the stage as to why this celebration is important and who they are as American Indians.
