Principal's Weekly Message January 20, 2020
Posted by Lynne Dodd on 1/20/2020
Good Afternoon East Millbrook Families,
We hope that this message finds you well the extended weekend. We hope that everyone was able to reflect and give gratitude on this Martin Luther King day of remembrance.
Congratulations to all of our student athletes, and performers who participated in games, exhibitions and other events last week! It was an honor and a pleasure to see the efforts of our students pay off and shine in front of our school community.
Spring Sports Tryouts will take place on February 12, 2020 from 3:00 PM - 5:00 PM
Students must have a current physical on file, register online (if you have not done so previously) and meet all eligibility requirements.
See Coach Baker with any questions and/or concerns
We are having our 2nd Family and Community Engagement Night on Tuesday, February 11th from 5:00 to 7:30.
During this time we will have all of the following scheduled for all families;
-Student-Led Conferences
-Family Art Activity, and
-Gallery Walk.
-Dinner will be served.
Please RSVP no later than February 4th (See the attached Flier) Contact Mr. Lindsey if you have any questions.
Families please remind your child that all personal electronic devices should be kept in bookbags/lockers during the instructional day. Each time students receive messages/notifications it distracts them from the task of learning and effectively participating in collaborative and critical thinking tasks designed throughout each class period. We thank all the families who have worked in alignment with EM3 to keep personal electronic devices out of classrooms during the instructional school day.
The student services team is excited to announce that we will be holding our first Parent Academy Session on the topic of Social Media. During this presentation we will cover:
* Which applications middle schoolers are currently using and their functions.
* The affects social media can have on your child’s mental health.
* How to create boundaries for social media use.
* Consequences to misusing social media.
This presentation will take place on Thursday, January 30th from 7:45-9:00am in the Media Center. Refreshments will be served. Please RSVP to Ms. Edgecombe, eedgecombe@wcpss.net no later than January 28th. If you have any questions, feel free to contact your student’s grade level counselor.
We want to remind families that ALL students have access to Dreambox Learning. Dreambox Learning is a digital resource that is designed to provide every student personalized practice and reinforcement personalized to their specific learning level.
Dreambox is accessible through each child’s wakeid portal. If you have any questions about how to support your child with Dreambox Learning, please reach out to their math teacher or our 6th grade instructional coach, Ms. Herb (kherb@wcpss.net).
Students who access Dreambox Learning at least 45 minutes per week are proven to meet and/or exceed the expected growth target in the area of math each year. The more that students work to practice math at their learning level, the more growth and progress they make toward mastery of all grade level standards (below, at, or above grade level).
