Introduction from Principal Drouhard

Dear Sanderson Spartan Students and Community Members,

It is with tremendous excitement that I write to you as the new principal of Sanderson High School beginning in January 2023!!!

Currently, I am serving as the principal of Rhodes School of Environmental Studies, a high school in Cleveland, Ohio.  I worked with our school community to develop the school model and we launched in 2017 with our first graduating class in 2021.  There is nothing more gratifying than getting to watch a group of students grow over four years and then walk across that stage to receive their diploma!!

As the founding principal of Rhodes School of Environmental Studies, we got to envision, design, and implement a new, innovative school model. Our school model is meant to bring a more relevant high school experience to the students that we serve.  Our work has been rooted in mastery based grading, project based learning and positive adult-student relationships.  We also rely on support from community organizations to help us provide experiences for our students beyond the walls of our building.

One of the core components of creating a high school experience that is relevant for students is giving opportunities for student voice and choice.  Sanderson students, it was evident from the feedback you gave during the principal search process that you value and appreciate having a voice at Sanderson.  I am so excited to hear what you have to share!

To the Sanderson parents/guardians, thank you for trusting us with your students!  Your partnership is so important.  When I spoke to Superintendent Moore during the interview process, she talked about how incredibly supportive Spartan parents are of the school.  I am looking forward to learning more about the Spartan way and the rich history that are part of our school.

And to the community organizations that support the school community, we couldn’t do this work without you.  When I ask people about Sanderson, one of the first things they would tell me is how incredibly supportive the community is of the school.  That is very unique and your involvement with the school is vital.  I am grateful to get to work alongside you to continue to support the Sanderson High School Spartans.

I feel very fortunate to be joining the Sanderson community!  When you see me at a play, concert or athletic event, please come say hi and share your Sanderson stories.  I am looking forward to meeting everyone in January!  In the meantime, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me at spartan.principal1@gmail.com.

With Spartan Pride,

Tara Drouhard, Principal
