JDE Weekly Parent Update 10/13/2023

JDE Panther Parents,

It was so nice to see our students united for our first spirit week for bullying prevention month. Thank you for encouraging your students to participate. Have a nice weekend!

Updates for this Week:

• New! Upcoming November Holidays--November is a very exciting month. Please mark your calendars with the following dates as students will not have school:

  • Tuesday, November 7--Teacher workday

  • Friday, November 10--Veterans Day(holiday)

  • Wednesday, November 22-Friday, November 24--Student vacation and holidays

• Reminder-National Bullying Prevention Month--JDE will promote National Bully Prevention Month throughout the month of October!  Our theme is Don't Stand By, Stand Up Against Bullying!  Students will take a pledge to stand against bullying, participate in spirit week, we will have student led announcements, the school counselors will deliver classroom lessons, and much more! 

   Spirit Week at JDE:

  Track 4: October 23-27

  Monday: Walk in Someone Else's Shoes Day-Wear mismatched shoes or socks

  Tuesday: Words hurt more on the inside than the outside

  Wednesday: Unity Day-Everyone wear Orange to show that we are in UNITY against bullying!

  Thursday: Wear your favorite team jersey or JDE shirt to school

  Friday: JDE Day-Wear your pajamas to school!

• Reminder-Quarter 1 Report Cards--Track 4 student report cards will be sent out on Friday, October 27.

• Scripps National Spelling Bee--Exciting News! Jones Dairy ES will once again participate in the 2023-2024 Scripps National Spelling Bee contest.  The winner from Jones Dairy ES will have the opportunity to advance to the regional spelling bee.  

  This year the spelling bee will be open to all students in Grades 2-5.  Each classroom will participate in a classroom spelling bee.  The winner from each classroom will advance to the school spelling bee.  The school spelling bee will take place on Friday, November 17, 2023, at 9:30 AM.  Parents of those participating in the school spelling bee will be invited to attend.   More information to come! 

• Student Illness--If your student is not feeling well, please keep them home. You will also need to contact your child's teacher, and they can help your student make up missed work.

• 2023-2024 Volunteer Registration–To complete the process to be a Volunteer within the Wake County Public School System for the 2023-2024 school year please use the link below to create an account and complete the registration process.

• Boograms for Sale--Boo Grams are back again this year!  They will be sold each morning outside of the Media Center to students from 8:45-9:15.  See flyer for dates for each track!
