JDE Weekly Parent Update 10/28/22

Good evening,

We hope everyone has a great weekend!


Updates for this Week:

  • New! Angel Tree--The holidays are quickly approaching and JDE is once again sponsoring our annual Angel Tree program. We would love to have the support of our JDE families during this giving season.  If you would like to help make a student's holiday bright, please use the following sign-up link. 

    Please bring your wrapped gifts back on or before December 5.

  • New! Kidz Art Session 2--KidzArt drawing lessons begin on Nov 30 (Dec 7 for Track 2 students). Classes meet on Wednesdays in the Art Room (4-5 pm) and open to K-5th grades. Students participate when track in. Each week, your child will bring home a finished artwork that he/she will be proud!

  • Reminder--Track 4 Report Cards--Track 4 students will bring home report cards on Monday, October 31.

  • Reminder-Bully Prevention Month 2022--JDE will promote National Bully Prevention Month throughout the month of October!  Students will take a pledge to stand against bullying and receive a bully-free bracelet to show their dedication. Spirit Week at JDE:
    • Tracks 2 & 4: October 31-November 4
      • Monday: Wear your favorite jersey-be a team player-Don't Bully!                                           

      • Tuesday: Inside Out Day- hurt more on the inside than the outside!

      • Wednesday: Unity Day-Everyone wear Orange to show that we are in UNITY against bullying!

      • Thursday: Take a Walk Day-with the intention to take a walk in someone else's shoes-Wear 2 different shoes!
      • Friday: JDE Day-Wear your favorite JDE spirit wear! 

  • The Next Teacher Workday--The next teacher workday will be on Tuesday, November 8. 

    • Early Release Day--Students will be released from school at 1:45 pm on Thursday, November 10.

    • Veteran's Day--Friday, November 11 is a holiday. All schools will be closed on this day.


Volunteer Registration Information for 2022-2023


  • Volunteer Registration for 2022-2023--This year each classroom will be offering volunteer opportunities, and we will need volunteers for field day, fun days, and field trips. Please read the guidance below for the 2022-2023 school year. 
    • Current volunteers--Current volunteers who were approved for the 2021-22 school year do not have to register again this year.
      • Please email Ms. Sandra Cosby at if you would like to check your current approval status. 
    • New Volunteers--All new volunteer applicants must register and have an approved criminal record check prior to engaging in volunteer work. 

      • New volunteer applicants may go to any WCPSS work site and register through by selecting the Community tab, and then selecting Volunteer

      • Applicants will be notified by email once their application has been approved.

      • Applicants who are not approved will receive notice from Employee Relations.

    • Registration Process for WCPSS Employees Who Want to Volunteer--Although WCPSS employees do not have to go through a criminal record check to volunteer, they do need to register. 

    • How do I register at JDE? Parents may register at our school Monday-Friday anytime between 9:30 am and 3:00 pm. 

      • Please bring your license and ring the front doorbell to let our staff know you are here to register to be a volunteer.  

  • YMCA Before and After School Program--Jones Dairy Elementary School has before and after school care that is run by the Kerr Family YMCA.  If you would like additional information please click on this link

JDE PTA Updates


  • The Fun Run for students on Tracks 2 and 4 has been rescheduled for Nov. 4. Here are the run times:

    • Pre-K, K, & 1st Grade: 12:00-12:45 PM
    • 2nd & 3rd Grade: 1:15-2:00 PM
    • 4th & 5th Grade: 2:30-3:15 PM
  • Volunteer Opportunities: Please click on the link below to volunteer! Remember that you must be an approved WCPSS volunteer in order to help work at this event.

  • Support Your Student for the Fun Run: If you plan to come and watch your student run, please click here to sign up. This will make the check-in process easier the day of the event. Please sign up by noon on Wednesday, November 2.
