JDE Weekly Parent Update 6/10/2022

Panther Parents,

Have a great weekend!

Updates for this Week:

  • New! Bus Schedules--Starting on Monday, there is a strong possibility buses may be arriving to stops slightly sooner since traditional schools will be out for the summer. Parents should check the Here Comes the Bus application and be mindful of these changes so that they can receive their students at the stop. Thank you!
  • Supply Lists for the 2022-2023 School Year--Please click on this link to view the lists.
  • Save the Date!--2022-2023 Meet and Greet-- We are excited to invite all families to an in person meet and greet event on campus on Thursday, June 30 from 4:00-6 pm. Students and parents will be able to walk to their new classroom, meet their new teacher, and drop off supplies.
    • 4:00-4:20 PM--We will gather in the gym to provide updates from the school staff and the PTA.
    • 4:30-6 PM--Families can tour the school and drop off supplies in classrooms.
  • Upcoming Spring Field Day Dates-- A special thank you goes out to all of our parents that volunteered for field day this week. We appreciate the sacrifices you made to work the stations for our kids! We will be in need of parent volunteers for the final 2 upcoming field days. Teachers will be sending out the SignUp Genius links. If you are interested in helping, please make sure that you have been approved as a volunteer.
    • Who do I contact for help? Please contact Ms. Sandra Cosby, the JDE receptionist and volunteer coordinator, at scosby@wcpss.net to check on your volunteer status. If you have field day questions please contact Mrs. Pennington at lpennington@wcpss.net. Thank you!
    • Completing the Background Check--If you need to come in to complete the background check please sign up for a time here. (Please understand that background checks are not done at the school and may take some time to complete.)
    • Field Day Dates--
      • Tracks 3 and 4: 3rd- 5th   June 17th

  • Severe Weather During Dismissal--The weather over the past few weeks has brought us severe conditions in the afternoons, specifically, tornado warnings during dismissal. If this should occur again we will halt afternoon dismissal immediately. School staff will make every effort to send a text message to families to let them know of the severe weather and delays, and we will also send a message once dismissal can resume. We thank you in advance for your patience should we have inclement weather in the weeks to come.
  • Free and Reduced Meal Applications for the 2022-2023 School Year--

All students currently receive free school meals supported by federal funding due to the pandemic. This funding is set to end on June 30, 2022. In order to receive free or reduced-price meals for next school year, families need to submit a meal benefits application.

    • All families must complete an application for the 2022-2023 school year starting July 1 in order to receive benefits. Please allow 10 business days for processing. For every student that turns in the free and reduced meals application and qualifies, the school also receives federal funds that benefit the students and teachers at the school.

    • We need you to complete a 2022-2023 meal benefits application so our school can be eligible for extra funding next year. If you have not completed a free or reduced-price meal application and think your child may be eligible, pick up an application at your child’s school or apply online. Paper applications can also be requested by calling 919-588-3535 or 919-856-2920 or emailing cnsmealbenefits@wcpss.net

    • 2022-2023 Meal Prices--K-5 Breakfast is $1.50 and lunch is $3.00.

  • Calendars for the Upcoming School Year--The 2022-2023 year round calendars have been posted.
    • You may view the year round accessible calendar here
    • You may view the regular year round calendar here

With pride,
