Updates for this Week:
Updated! Teacher Workday, Kindergarten Orientation, and Special Virtual Events for Parents--Monday, May 2 will be a teacher workday. Students will not attend school on this day.
In addition to kindergarten orientation, the JDE staff will be holding a special virtual event that day for parents of students in grades K-4. All parents will have the opportunity to meet with teachers in your child's next grade level to examine curriculum and expectations for the upcoming school year.
Times: Each grade level will hold two virtual sessions. Parents will be able to attend meets from 11:00-11:30 am or 11:30-12 pm.
Google Meet links and any additional information will be sent out in next week's principal update.
New! Wake Forest Middle School Open House for Rising 6th Graders--
Attention 5th grade students, Wake Forest Middle School will host their Rising 6th Grade Open House event on Thursday, April 28th from 5:00pm - 6:30pm. Tours will be given to future Cougars and their families during this time. WFMS administration, counselors, and staff will be available to provide information about middle school and answer any questions you have regarding your child's transition to middle school. Field Day Dates--We will be in need of parent volunteers for the 4 upcoming field days.Teachers will be sending out the SignUp Genius links. If you are interested in helping, please make sure that you have been approved as a volunteer.

Completing the Background Check--If you need to come in to complete the background check please sign up for a time here. (Please understand that background checks are not done at the school and may take some time to complete.)

Reminder-Student Attire in Warmer Weather--As the temperatures outside get warmer, we are asking that parents pay close attention to what their student is wearing to school. Please make sure your child's clothing is adhering to the WCPSS Dress Code. You can read additional information here.
Important Reminder--MTYR Calendar Change due to Remediation/Readministration Dates--WCPSS is repurposing the last two days of the school year for students that attend MTYR schools. These days will now offer time for a remediation/readministration opportunities on those last two days for qualifying students in grades 3-5 based on their EOG score. These changes impact all families.
Please reference the information below regarding the changes to the WCPSS MTYR calendar for the end of the school year.
Tracks 2, 3, and 4
The last day of school, for students on track 1, is now Thursday, June 2 (formerly June 6).
Qualified students in grades 3-5 that meet the criteria and opt-in for the remediation/readministration opportunities will come to school on Friday, June 3 and Monday, June 6.
The last day of school, for students on tracks 2-4, is now Monday, June 27 (formerly June 29).
Qualified students in grades 3-5 that meet the criteria and opt-in for the remediation/readministration opportunities will come to school on Tuesday, June 28 and Wednesday, June 29.

COVID-19 Updates and Precautions-
Please read updated WCPSS guidance on returning to school after an illness here.
Masking Update-- Face coverings are recommended but not required in our schools.
Volunteer Sign Up/Renewal-- The updated dates have been added to the Sign Up Genius here. Please do the following on the morning of your appointment:
Come to the main entrance and ring the doorbell. Make sure you bring your license with you.
Staff will direct you to the Care Center main entrance.
Please choose a workstation to complete registration. We have two laptops set up with instructions for completing the process.
It may take several weeks for the school staff to receive a status update from the vendor. We thank you for your patience in advance.
Changes in Your Child's Transportation--Pleasesubmit any changes in your child's transportation to your child's teacher in writing.
A change in transportation via email that is made late in the school day may not be seen in time for afternoon dismissal, but we understand that in the event of an emergency it may be necessary. If that is the case, please follow up by contacting the school via phone as well after you send the e-mail so that we can get the change to your child's teacher. Thank you!
YMCA Early Arrival/After School and Track Out Camp Information--Please explore these links below if you are interested in after school or track out care for your children.
To date, we have had no interest in the two open positions we available on the JDE PTA Board next year. The Treasurer and VP of Fundraising are critical roles. If we do not have those positions filled, the PTA will not be able to function at it's current capacity. We have big plans next year, but we simply cannot implement them with out help.
