JDE Weekly Parent Update 4/14/2022


Panther Parents,

All Wake County Public Schools will be closed on Friday, April 15 in observance of Good Friday. We hope you and your families have a nice holiday weekend!


Updates for this Week:

  • New! Field Day Dates--We will be in need of parent volunteers for the 4 upcoming field days. A Signup Genius will be sent out soon. If you are interested in helping, please make sure that you have been approved as a volunteer. 
    • Who do I contact for help? Please contact Ms. Sandra Cosby, the JDE receptionist and volunteer coordinator, at to check on your volunteer status. Thank you!
    • Field Day Dates--
      • Tracks 1 and 2:  K-2nd   May 4th           3rd -5th   May 5th

      • Tracks 3 and 4:  K-2nd   June 10th        3rd- 5th   June 17th

  • New! Teacher Workday and Special Virtual Event for Parents--Monday, May 2 will be a teacher workday. Students will not attend school on this day. 
    • In addition to kindergarten orientation, the JDE staff will be holding a special virtual event that day for parents of students in grades K-4.  All parents will have the opportunity to meet with teachers in your child's next grade level to examine curriculum and expectations for the upcoming school year.  Google Meet links and additional information will be provided for all families within the next few weeks. 
  • New! Student Attire in Warmer Weather--As the temperatures outside get warmer, we are asking that parents pay close attention to what their student is wearing to school. Please make sure your child's clothing is adhering to the WCPSS Dress Code.  You can read additional information here
  • Important Reminder--MTYR Calendar Change due to Remediation/Readministration Dates--WCPSS is repurposing the last two days of the school year for students that attend MTYR schools.  These days will now offer time for a remediation/readministration opportunities on those last two days for qualifying students in grades 3-5 based on their EOG score.  These changes impact all families.

Please reference the information below regarding the changes to the WCPSS MTYR calendar for the end of the school year.

Track 1

Tracks 2, 3, and 4

  • The last day of school, for students on track 1, is now Thursday, June 2 (formerly June 6).  

  • Qualified students in grades 3-5 that meet the criteria and opt-in for the remediation/readministration opportunities will come to school on Friday, June 3 and Monday, June 6. 

  • The last day of school, for students on tracks 2-4, is now Monday, June 27 (formerly June 29).  

  • Qualified students in grades 3-5 that meet the criteria and opt-in for the remediation/readministration opportunities will come to school on Tuesday, June 28 and Wednesday, June 29.  


Updates from Previous Weeks:

  • Panorama Parent Survey--Please take a few minutes to provide feedback via the Panorama Parent Survey. The parent survey can be found here. Thank you!
  • Reminder--Visitor Parking--All parents are asked to park in the visitor parking spots on the first row when checking students in or out during the day. Please do not park in the fire lane. Thank you!
  • COVID-19 Updates and Precautions-
    • Please read updated WCPSS guidance on returning to school after an illness here.
    • Masking Update-- Face coverings are recommended but not required in our schools. 
  • Volunteer Sign Up/Renewal-- The updated dates have been added to the Sign Up Genius here. Please do the following on the morning of your appointment:
    • Come to the main entrance and ring the doorbell.  Make sure you bring your license with you.
    • Staff will direct you to the Care Center main entrance.
    • Please choose a workstation to complete registration. We have two laptops set up with instructions for completing the process. 
    • It may take several weeks for the school staff to receive a status update from the vendor.  We thank you for your patience in advance. 
  • Changes in Your Child's Transportation--Please submit any changes in your child's transportation to your child's teacher in writing. 
    • A change in transportation via email that is made late in the school day may not be seen in time for afternoon dismissal, but we understand that in the event of an emergency it may be necessary.  If that is the case, please follow up by contacting the school via phone as well after you send the e-mail so that we can get the change to your child's teacher. JDE PTA Updates


  • PTA Positions for 2022-2023: The PTA is currently seeking volunteers for a couple of integral positions next year: VP Fundraising & Treasurer. These roles are critical in the continued success of being able to financially support JDE with funds for items/activities (like our new outdoor seating areas) that the school/district isn’t able to fund. The JDE PTA board meets monthly. For the Treasurer position if you’re a CPA, great, but not required. Please contact for more information.
  • JDE Carnival May 13--Tickets are on sale now! Click here to purchase tickets to attend and raffle tickets:
    • Don’t forget to begin bringing in basket donations to raffle at the carnival!!

  • St. Baldrick's Fundraiser- Don't forget to have your children bring in their change (and small bills) to vote for the JDE staff member they would like to see pied in the face at the spring carnival. Vote now until May 10th!  100% of the proceeds go to support childhood cancer research with the St. Baldrick's Foundation.
