JDE Weekly Parent Update 3/12/2021

Panther Parents,

We are very excited to welcome back all of our 4th and 5th grade in person students next week! Make sure you read the carpool and bus transportation tips and reminders below so that we can keep our carpool flowing. We will see everyone bright and early in person and online on Monday. Have a great weekend!

Updates for this Week:

  • New! The Next Asynchronous Day--Wednesday, March 17 is an asynchronous day.  There will be no live meets for students and teachers will post assignments.
    • March 29 and 30 are asynchronous days for next month.
    • Students will begin track out on Wednesday, March 31 and will return to school on Wednesday, April 14.
  • Spring Photos--All JDE students will have the opportunity to take spring photos in April.  Tentative dates include:
    • Wednesday, April 21 for VA and remote students.
    • Thursday, April 22 for students that are in person.
  • Single Subject Acceleration Nomination and Testing Window--
    •  The SSA nomination window for parents will run start on February 22nd and runs through March 22nd.  No nominations will be accepted after March 22nd.
    • The testing window will run from April 19th through May 7th.
    • Additional information can be found on our JDE website
  • Library Book Checkout--
    • Students who attend school face to face will no longer be placing holds online in order to check out library books.  Students will now be doing this in Media special each week following guidelines from WCPSS. Students in Virtual Academy and 4/5 students doing Remote Learning can place holds on books as needed.  Books will be pulled and ready for pick up 1-2 days after hold has been placed.  An email will be sent to student and parent when books are ready for pick up.

        Checkout Procedures:

  • *Students can go to Follett (Destiny) within their WakeID portal and place up to 5 books on hold at a time.
  • *Books will be pulled and ready for checkout 1-2 days after your holds have been place.  Parents and students will get an email notification to let you know that the books are ready for pickup.  Ex. If books are placed on hold on Monday, books will be ready for pickup by Wednesday if not sooner.
  • *Once families get an email stating books are ready for pickup, you may go to school and pick them up.  Books will be in green bags labeled with the student's name found in the black bin with a yellow top outside the front office doors.  If books are not picked up within 3 days, they will be removed from the bin.  To avoid cross contamination, please do not place books on hold that you do not intend to pick up.
  • *Books can be returned at anytime to the tall green bin labeled JDE Book Return.  Proper quarantine procedures will be followed when books are returned before they are ready for the next checkout.
  • *If you have any questions regarding library checkout please contact Mrs. DuPont, JDE's School Library Media Coordinator.  Her email is kdupont@wcpss.net.
  • Asynchronous Days and the Second Semester Calendar--Please review these items below.
    • The second semester calendar can be viewed here
    • Second semester asynchronous days can be viewed here
  • Backpack Buddies--We are preparing to re-start the Backpack Buddies Program at our school.  This program provides students with supplemental food (commercially packaged and individually wrapped) that is easy to prepare and ensures they will have food to eat for the weekend. Students will bring home a bag that would fit into their backpack on Fridays. If your family is interested in this confidential program, please email our school counselor, Traci Johnson at tjohnson12@wcpss.net.

Carpool Reminders and Updates for the 2020-2021 School Year

We want to let you all know how much we appreciate your patience as we continue to provide a safe and orderly arrival and dismissal experience for our students.  In an effort to help staff quickly identify students based on their carpool/walker numbers we have attached a tag with each student's carpool/walker number to their backpack.  These tags should remain on the child’s backpack until the last day of school.  On the last day of the 2020-2021 School Year school staff will remove and collect the tags so that they can be given to your child’s 2021-2022 Homeroom Teacher for redistribution on the first day of the new school year.

If you have any questions or need a new tag for any reason, please contact Mr. Saeva via email at ksaeva@wcpss.net

Morning Arrival:

  • Please turn your car heat off when you arrive on campus.  This will help your child from getting overheated for their temperature reading.

  • Make sure all of your child’s belongings are gathered so that staff can help them exit your vehicle as quickly as possible.

  • If your child does not pass the initial temperature screening, we will direct families to another area to park and wait for the follow up screening(s).

Afternoon Dismissal:

  •  If you need a carpool tag, please complete this survey as soon as possible so that we can get a tag for your family to display.

  • If someone is picking up your child and they do not have a tag, they will need to be prepared to park and have their ID verified with the main office team. The name on the ID must match the names parents have listed on the locator card.

  • Please make sure your child knows their carpool number and they look out for it on the television screen.
