Thanks for celebrating Read Across America Week with us! We had such a good time seeing our students in person and at home in all of their hats and different outfits. Have a great weekend!
Updates for this Week:
New!JDE will Celebrate Women's History Month and Irish-American Heritage Month in March--
Every March, people in the United States acknowledge the achievements and history of women as part of Women’s History Month. We will highlight one prominent woman a week and send out a video, article, or activity for our students to explore. Today, we are recognizing the fearless work of Bessie Coleman.
March is also set aside to celebrate the contributions of Irish-Americans. Congress designated March as Irish-American Heritage Month in 1991 and the President issues a proclamation commemorating the occasion each year. Our students will also participate in learning opportunities around Irish-American Heritage later this month.
New!Spring Photos--All JDE students will have the opportunity to take spring photos in April. Tentative dates include:
Wednesday, April 21 for VA and remote students.
Thursday, April 22 for students that are in person.
New! The Next Asynchronous Day--Wednesday, March 17 is an asynchronous day. There will be no live meets for students and teachers will post assignments.
March 29 and 30 are asynchronous days for next month.
Single Subject Acceleration Nomination and Testing Window--
The SSA nomination window for parents will run start on February 22nd and runs through March 22nd. No nominations will be accepted after March 22nd.
The testing window will run fromApril 19th through May 7th.
Additional information can be found on our JDE website.
Library Book Checkout--
Students who attend school face to face will no longer be placing holds online in order to check out library books. Students will now be doing this in Media special each week following guidelines from WCPSS. Students in Virtual Academy and 4/5 students doing Remote Learning can place holds on books as needed. Books will be pulled and ready for pick up 1-2 days after hold has been placed. An email will be sent to student and parent when books are ready for pick up.
*Students can go to Follett (Destiny) within their WakeID portal and place up to 5 books on hold at a time.
*Books will be pulled and ready for checkout 1-2 days after your holds have been place. Parents and students will get an email notification to let you know that the books are ready for pickup. Ex. If books are placed on hold on Monday, books will be ready for pickup by Wednesday if not sooner.
*Once families get an email stating books are ready for pickup, you may go to school and pick them up. Books will be in green bags labeled with the student's name found in the black bin with a yellow top outside the front office doors. If books are not picked up within 3 days, they will be removed from the bin. To avoid cross contamination, please do not place books on hold that you do not intend to pick up.
*Books can be returned at anytime to the tall green bin labeled JDE Book Return. Proper quarantine procedures will be followed when books are returned before they are ready for the next checkout.
*If you have any questions regarding library checkout please contact Mrs. DuPont, JDE's School Library Media Coordinator. Her email is email@example.com.
Asynchronous Days and the Second Semester Calendar--Please review these items below.
Second semester asynchronous days can be viewed here.
Backpack Buddies--We are preparing to re-start the Backpack Buddies Program at our school. This program provides students with supplemental food (commercially packaged and individually wrapped) that is easy to prepare and ensures they will have food to eat for the weekend. Students will bring home a bag that would fit into their backpack on Fridays. If your family is interested in this confidential program, please email our school counselor, Traci Johnson at firstname.lastname@example.org.
No Fuss Fundraiser--Don’t forget to help us with our No Fuss Fundraiser! We are working to support JDE purchase items for both virtual and in person learning including: Raz Kids Reading Program, room dividers for social distancing, and technology grants for our teachers to purchase other virtual learning apps for the students. Every dollar counts! Donate today! Link: https://jonesdairy.memberhub.store/
You can also send your Vic or Lowes savings card # or phone number used to set up your savings cards to email@example.com. Sending these numbers will only link your cards to our school. It will not give out any information.
Any questions please contact Theresa Pritt, VP of Fundraising, at the above email.
