Weekly Parent Update 10/16/20

 

Panther Parents,

I hope you and your families had an amazing track out! We are eager to get back to business on Monday morning.  If your children are on cohort rotations for Plan B, I know you have lots of questions regarding the return to schools starting on Monday, October 26. Please know that we are working on finalizing plans,and an abundance of information will be provided to families early next week.  Timeline information and windows can be found below.

  • New! YMCA Before and After School Registration--Before and after school services will be available starting Monday, October 26.

  • New! Important Topics to Review--Please click on the links below to read about several different important topics as we prepare for in person instruction on October 26.

    What happens when there is a COVID-19 case on campus?
    Even with thorough measures in place to reduce the spread of COVID-19 on school campuses, everyone in the community could be exposed to the virus through everyday interactions with others on-campus or off-campus. Learn more about what will happen when students return to campus. 

    How we’ll keep school buildings safe and clean
    We are committed to keeping our school buildings clean and safe. Buildings will be cleaned and disinfected throughout the day and every evening. Learn more about our processes for disinfecting and cleaning the school when students return.

    7 things families should know about face coverings
    Face coverings are an additional step to help slow the spread of COVID-19 when combined with everyday preventive actions and social distancing in public settings. Questions about gaiters? Vents? Learn more about face coverings in school on our website. 

  • Update from Mrs. DuPont regarding Library Books--
    • New! New library book pickup days for VA and Remote Learning students will be every Tuesday and Thursday for the remainder of first semester. An email will be sent out letting you know when they are ready for pickup.  Please reach out to Mrs. DuPont if you are not able to pick up within this timeframe.  (kdupont@wcpss.net)
    • New holds will need to be placed by 8 am on the scheduled day of pickup.  
    • Green bags - please return the green bags when you return the books as they will be reused.
    • Library books not picked up within three days will be returned to circulation so other students can have a chance to check them out.

             Thank you to all of our families who have already utilized our new Library Check Out Procedures.

  • Immunizations--All immunization requirements and health assessments are now due by September 30, 2020.  Students will be granted a 30-day grace period which expires on October 30, 2020. 

 

PTA News:

  • No Fuss Fundraiser--Don’t forget to help us with our No Fuss Fundraiser! We are working to support JDE purchase items for both virtual and in person learning including: Raz Kids Reading Program, room dividers for social distancing, and technology grants for our teachers to purchase other virtual learning apps for the students.   • Link Your Lowe's and VIC Cards--Parents it's now time to relink your Lowes Foods and Harris Teeter savings cards.  You can link your VIC card at https://www.harristeeter.com/together-in-education  and go to  https://rewards.lowesfoods.com/Account/SelectCard?mode=CartToClass to link your Lowes card.  
    • You can also send your Vic or Lowes savings card # or phone number used to set up your savings cards to tpritt76@gmail.com.  Sending these numbers will only link your cards to our school. It will not give out any information.

  • October Newsletter--Please check out the newest JDE PTA Newsletter here.
  • Join the PTA--Please support the JDE PTA by becoming a member! The cost is $10 for an individual or $15 for a family (2 memberships). A portion goes towards national and state dues and a portion goes toward programs for students, teachers right here at JDE, and much more!
    • Every person who joins automatically becomes a member of both the North Carolina PTA and National PTA. JDE PTA members will receive special access to discounts at PTA events throughout the year.  Members are entitled to National PTA membership discounts. Thanks for all your support!
